4-Set Vintage Ladder-Back Chairs (No Table) Farmhouse English Country Cottage French Provincial Rush Seat When we first moved into the stone farmhouse in the Lubéron, the house was grand, but our dining room was as barren as a sun-bleached field. One particularly humid evening, While chatting with Monsieur Dubois from down the lane, Jeanne sighed, We have the wine, but we have nowhere for anyone to sit but the floor. The next morning, the crunch of gravel signaled the arrival of Monsieur Dubois and his three strapping teenage sons approached in a rather remarkable formation: they each comically carried four ladder-back chairs, each one resting upside down on their heads, steadied by one hand, while simultaneously carrying wooden crates between them, each holding one handle. All four chairs were painted a deep cherry-red. Inside the crates was a bottle of Dubois’s hearty Grenache, several long fresh baguettes, and a plethora of other comestibles from his larder. And also, an unexpected bonus: a tin of red paint intended for painting the front door red, for good fortune as the Chinese believe. As we cracked open the wine, one of the boys held the open paint tin up next to one of the cherry-red chairs to check the color against the front door project. The red was an exact, identical match. The young man grinned, looked at the chairs and the paint tin, and said, If you wish to be, how do you say in English... matchy-matchy. While these chairs carry all the charm of a rustic antique, what they actually are is a wonderful set of vintage ladder-back rush seat chairs from the 1980s or 90s. Though they didnt come from a centuries-old village artisan, the form itself carries a rich heritage deeply rooted in French provincial country life, English vernacular furniture traditions, and early American Shaker craftsmanship—all built on the same shared philosophy of utilitarian beauty and enduring construction. They reflect a standard of woodworking and material quality that factories were still utilizing back then—solid joinery, thick turned wood, and hand-woven rush seats crafted to last for generations—the kind of honest, heavy-duty build quality you simply cannot find in modern mass-market furniture today, or at least not without spending a small fortune. They feature a factory finish with a plum undertone and a textured red top coat for visual interest, designed to look like they have been repainted numerous times over a long life, but not distressed or shabby chic. They look quite nice. If you are looking for a larger set or a different finish, I also have a separate five-chair set in a brown/honey tone that uses the same design framework. That set includes two armchairs that match the width of these red chairs, and three narrower side chairs without arms. Whether you prefer the brown finish as-is or want to paint them to match these red chairs to create a cohesive set of eight or nine, the option is there. Simple paint matching technology and internet instructions on how to create the multi-tone look could have you set up with a full matching red set of 9 or 6 with two arm chairs in no time Overall Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. All chairs are sturdy, solid, and structurally sound with tight rush seats. The finish on the red chairs is in good shape and the cord woven seats are in excellent condition. They are also available with four matching print on black cushions. If you would like the set of nine, and would like a long black Ikea table with it, that is available for free. Its in decent shape but a small bit of water damage along the seam down the middle. Comes with two leaves. Measurements: Back Height: 41.5 in Seat Width: 22 in Seat Height: 18.5 in Flexible Purchasing Options: While these four red chairs are offered together, I am open to separating or pairing them, and other options include: * Set of 4 Red Chairs: $195 * Two Red Chairs: $125 * Set of 5 Brown Chairs: $195 * Two Brown Armchairs: $150 for the pair * Three Brown Side Chairs: $100 * Additional inventory: Several other similar chairs available for $85 a pair * Full Set of 9 Chairs: Includes the free black IKEA Bjursta table with two leaves (okay shape with some water damage at the seam) $495 Available for pickup in the Pinehurst neighborhood of Northeast Seattle. Vintage Wooden 6 drawer dresser freshly hand painted in a medium blue. Believe to be constructed of solid pine or poplar. Unsure of the brand in this piece, however, with some research, I believe this piece to be from the 1970s manufactured in North Carolina for Sears Roebuck. Original hardware painted in brown Top has been uniquely finished in polyshade a dark brown stain and poly in one, creating a rustic look. Also, finished with another 2 layers of polyurethane for added durability. Please note that this is a pre-loved piece and has some minor character dings underneath the fresh paint from its age and regular usage. Give your space a pop of color with this charming vintage dresser, featuring a beautiful blue painted finish, a dark contrasting top, and ornate dark metal drawer pulls. The dresser has six spacious drawers with decorative raised-panel fronts and a lovely scalloped base that adds to its vintage character. The combination of blue paint and the dark top creates a striking look that would complement a bedroom, guest room, or even a living room! All drawers are in working order Measures: 54 long 17 1/2 deep 30 1/2 tall Pick up in Nashua Or open discuss possible delivery within a reasonable distance to Nashua for an additional fee
