Stately Vintage Antique Oak Dining Set Table & 4 Chairs Classic Country Cottage Deco 20s 30s 40s Looking to add warmth, character, and versatility to your dining area? This set features a rich wood tone and an inviting, tailored silhouette that fits effortlessly into a range of interiors—from eclectic and maximalist spaces to classic country cottage setups. The Table Design & Style: An elegant 1920s–1930s style octagonal/canted-corner dining table featuring lovely carved detail along the apron and a warm, rich wood finish. Base: The base is likely a 1970s replacement rather than original to the top, but it matches the overall aesthetic very well, offers a solid pedestal feel, and is extremely sturdy. Condition: The table surface shows some light surface wear and minor blemishes from age, but it is in good overall condition. It certainly doesnt require refinishing unless you desire a flawless surface—it carries a wonderful, authentic lived-in character as-is. Transport Note: The pedestal legs have been removed to make moving and transport much easier. They can easily be reattached on-site, or I’ll hand over the four mounting screws so you can assemble them yourself. The Chairs (Set of 4) Design & Style: A set of four sturdy oak dining chairs with clean, classic vertical back slats and carved accents. Their design leans into an early 20th-century Arts & Crafts / Mission influence, pairing seamlessly with the tables vintage aesthetic and matching its warm oak color tone. Upholstery: The seats are currently upholstered in a plum-striped fabric in good shape that adds a fun, retro pop. If striped fabric isnt your preference, updating them is a breeze! The seat pads easily unscrew from the frame underneath, allowing you to wrap and staple-gun your choice of material—such as modern black leather, cognac vinyl, or a custom pattern—in just minutes. (Staged images created with AI for design inspiration. Please see real photos for True appearance and condition.) Pickup: Available for local pickup in Northeast Seattle (Pinehurst neighborhood). Easy drive-up access and I am happy to help you load up! Delivery: Delivery may be available around the North Seattle / Shoreline area for a reasonable extra charge. The Octagon. By James Thurber? The Great Octagonal Table was delivered to the house on a Tuesday, borne upon the shoulders of two burly men who looked as though they had wrestled it away from a Victorian parlor car. My grandfather, a man who viewed all furniture made after 1910 with profound institutional suspicion, stood in the hallway with his arms folded, convinced the thing was a secret Trojan horse sent by the municipal water board. That top is 1930s, he declared, tapping the carved apron with his cane. It has the quiet, weary dignity of an old judge. But those legs— He squinted at the pedestal base with the intensity of an ornithologist spotting a questionable sparrow. Those legs came out of a suburban rumpus room in 1974. Look at them. They’re practically wearing bell-bottoms. He was not entirely wrong. The top was an octagonal expanse of warm, scarred oak, bearing the comfortable, lived-in blemishes of half a century’s forgotten coffee cups and fierce games of cribbage. The base beneath it was an unyielding 1970s newcomer, bolted on with four enormous screws to keep the whole affair from pitching into the carpet. It was a Frankenstein of dining room history, yet somehow, like two eccentric distant cousins forced to share a cab, the top and bottom got along splendidly. Surrounding it were four high-backed oak chairs that looked as if they had taken holy orders in the Arts and Crafts movement. They were solid, upright, and possessed seats wrapped in a plum-striped fabric that my aunt Matilda claimed induced mild vertigo if stared at during dessert. You can unscrew the bottoms with a butter knife and staple black leather over them in twenty minutes, my uncle James offered from behind his newspaper. Or cognac vinyl. Give it the feel of an exclusive gentlemens club where nobody actually speaks to each other. Nobody did recover the seats, however. The table remained in the dining room, sturdy enough to withstand small earthquakes and my grandfather’s occasional attempts to test its weight by leaning his entire body against the edge while arguing about the League of Nations. It sat there year after year—half-antique, half-disco-era, utterly immovable, and permanently staged for a dinner party that never quite ended.
