Introducing a magnificent, matching set of four late Victorian mahogany side chairs, showcasing the definitive elegance of 19th-century design. Each chair features a beautifully sculpted balloon back accented by an ornate, fluidly scrolled mid-rail, supported by classic turned front legs. The set has been curated with bespoke, premium upholstery featuring a dramatic deep burgundy ground adorned with romantic, large-scale pink roses. The rich botanical textile creates a striking, high-contrast pairing against the deep, warm grain of the solid mahogany. A quintessential addition to a formal dining room, modern-mix interior, or a curated Grandmillennial space. Pickup 85712, cash or Zelle accepted. If posted they remain available with serious inquiries answered. CONDITION REPORTThis set of four chairs is in good, highly stable antique condition. The solid mahogany frames feature tight, secure joinery with no structural instability, showing minor, stable hairline separations at the back-splat scroll joints and authentic finish wear, including scuffing and rubbing along the lower seat rails and leg corners consistent with genuine age. The bespoke burgundy floral upholstery is in pristine, brand-new condition, firmly padded and entirely free from fading, thinning, or blemishes. Design Elements/Style Breakdown Early Balloon Back: The open, nipped-in backrest forms the iconic balloon shape. The horizontal center rail features elegant carved side scrolls (volutes) rather than the heavy floral carvings seen in later 1860s versions. William IV / Early Victorian Legs: The front legs are sturdy and straight with distinctive turned and baluster-shaped details. These bulbous turnings are a telltale sign of an early-to-mid 19th-century piece, contrasted against the curved cabriole legs of later styles. Molded Seat Rail: The wooden frame surrounding the cushion features a clean, molded edge that cleanly secures the upholstered drop-in or over-stuffed seat. Wood Type: The warm, tight grain pattern is characteristic of polished mahogany or walnut, which were the premier choices for formal dining furniture during this period. The Story of the Four Blooming Rebels The setting is the grand estate dining room of Lady Genevieve, where the air smells faintly of beeswax polish and expensive jasmine tea. For decades, her dining room had been a place of quiet, dignified perfection—until the arrival of The Four Blooming Rebels. Act I: The Great Fabric MutinyThe four chairs had spent their early lives looking exactly like every other proper Victorian balloon back in London: draped in sensible, completely forgettable beige velvet. They were expected to be seen and not heard. But chairs made of select solid mahogany possess a hidden, dramatic spirit. One rainy afternoon, a visionary designer stripped away their dusty velvet and wrapped them in a bold, sweeping textile of deep burgundy and exploding pink roses. When they were placed back into the dining room, the room’s stately oil portraits practically gasped. They look positively theatrical! whispered a gilded landscape frame on the wall. Nonsense, creaked the largest chair, settling its beautifully turned legs firmly onto the marble floor. We are simply finally dressed for the party. Act II: The Chandeliers FavorThe rooms towering crystal chandelier, a notorious snob who usually only looked down on people, instantly fell in love with the new upholstery. Every evening at dusk, it would carefully angle its candlelight, casting dazzling, fractured beams directly onto the pink petals of the seats. Because of this, the chairs developed a bit of a diva complex: The Left Foreground Chair became the undisputed leader, intentionally angling itself slightly outward to catch the best light from the window. The Right Foreground Chair took on the role of the protector, showing off its fluidly scrolled mid-rail to anyone entering the room. The Two Rear Chairs huddled close to the mahogany table, whispering elegant gossip about the quality of the porcelain tea sets. Act III: Ready for the Next ChapterFor years, they hosted elite gatherings, held the weight of counts and artists, and successfully out-shined every piece of furniture in the house. But a set of four chairs with this much personality cannot stay tucked away in one dining room forever. They have heard whispers of a digital realm called a listing, and they are currently sitting in perfect, dramatic formation, waiting for a new curator to sweep them away to a new home.
