Mid-Century Modern Raymond Loewy DF2000 Credenza by Doubinsky Freres

Fabulous large version of the classic DF 2000 credenza or dresser by Raymond Loewy. Featuring 9 drawers and a cabinet, the molded plastic drawer fronts are organized in the designers signature graduated bands of pop art colored shades of red to orange. Raymond Loewy was 1 of the greatest industrial designers of this century. He was highly prolific throughout his long career, his work included the prosaic and iconic, from American shopping centers to the interior of Skylab, designing furniture, graphics, cars and many other products, and was the first designer ever to be featured on the cover of Time magazine. Loewy formed Compagnie de LEsthetique IndustrielleCEI, in Paris, in 1952. CEI, a separate operation from the New York office, was established to bring American-style industrial design to Europe. 1 of CEIs popular designs was the DF 2000 series, to which this credenza belongs, which consisted of a wide variety of case furniture, including wardrobes, chests-of-drawers and cabinets, manufactured by Doubinsky Freres and sold in the United States beginning in 1968. Although it was only manufactured until the early 1970 s, today the DF 2000 furniture is hard to find collectible pieces.
