A substantial pair of revival armchairs (circa 1960s–70s) Blending Queen Anne and Chippendale influences with mid-century American craftsmanship. These are chairs born of tradition: sturdy and commanding, with carved cabriole legs and scroll arms that echo the artistry of another era. The textured chenille, woven in warm tobacco tones with subtle threads of red and teal, feels as natural as saddle leather and as enduring as an old tartan. They carry the weight of history yet remain timeless — equally at home in a paneled library with a roaring fire as in a sunlit room overlooking the countryside. They invite not only comfort, but also a sense of permanence and belonging. In every sense, they are classic. Design and Craftsmanship Evoking the quiet grandeur of an English country house, this pair of vintage armchairs brings together scale, comfort, and craftsmanship. The generous seats (28” wide × 22.5” deep) invite long, unhurried hours by the fire, while the low 16.5” seat height gives them a sink-in ease. Carved from rich mahogany, the legs and low arms show a warm, time-deepened patina — the kind of finish that only decades of careful use can create. At nearly 70 lbs each, the dense hardwood lends both substance and gravitas, grounding the textured chenille upholstery. Nailhead trim at the arms and scalloping underscores their hand-worked detail. The arms end in deeply scrolled, hand-carved wood terminals — a flourish that echoes the craftsmanship of an earlier age. The chairs rest on elegant cabriole legs, their shoulders adorned with subtle acanthus carving, flowing into escargot (scroll) feet — a quintessential Louis XV detail that anchors the silhouette with grace and poise. The front apron is scalloped and upholstered, echoing the classic Louis XV curve and preserving a refined Rococo silhouette. Each chair retains its original coordinating chenille-fringed pillow (floral pillows shown are for styling only). The fringe is brushed bullion, richly toned in deep burgundy, green, and gold, adding a touch of luxe texture. Concealed zippers with quality YKK hardware and neatly executed trim finishing underscore the caliber of construction. Underneath absent dust covers, heavy jute webbing and hand-tied coil springs are revealed — hallmarks of old-world upholstery, built for resilience and longevity. Condition Excellent for their 50–60+ years, these chairs carry the graceful signs of time that distinguish true vintage pieces from reproductions. The carved mahogany arms and escargot feet show light surface scratches, small dings, absent nail heads, and a repairable chip to one arm scroll — all softened by a deep, warm patina built over decades. The finish displays natural variations and areas of mellow wear that read less as flaws and more as character: the kind of nuance that only life and use can impart. The chenille upholstery is strong, clean, and beautifully intact. Underneath, the cushion lining shows two faint marks, fully concealed by the cushions in daily use. Together, these details lend the chairs an authenticity and presence that new furniture simply cannot match — the lived-in refinement that high-end interiors actively seek out and celebrate. Dimensions • Seat: 28” W × 22.5” D • Seat Height: 16.5” • Back Height: 32” • Overall Depth: 33” • Overall Front Width: 29” • Overall Rear Width: 25” • Weight: ~70 lbs each Market Comparison Pricing Comparable vintage Louis XV provincial–style bergères on Chairish range from $2,000 to $2,400 for a pair, with designer or highly carved examples listing up to $3,800. Considering the rich mahogany, scale, brushed bullion accents, and sculptural presence of these chairs, we’ve priced them at $2,495 for the pair, while remaining open to reasonable offers. They present beautifully: lived-in refinement with the scale and craftsmanship that make them true statement pieces. Not just chairs, but companions — equally suited to a library lined with leather-bound volumes or a modern loft with clean lines and bold art
