Set of 4 Bold, Unapologetic, Vintage 70s High-Back Ladder-Back Chairs Spanish Revival Maximalist Gothic Regency Victorian Farmhouse Cottage Grandmillenial For The Visionary I know, right? But if you are reading this, they have at least caught your eye, and the one thing you can never, ever say about these chairs is that they are boring. Sure, you can go to IKEA, Pottery Barn, or some high-end boutique and buy nice chairs. I am sure they will be decent to good quality, highly functional, and very stylish. I will not even call them boring. But you cannot go to a showroom and buy these. With new big box chairs, one cannot take something rare, unapologetically bold, and delightfully eccentric, and bring ones singular design vision to bear on them with nothing more than grit, determination, and a willingness to zhuzh them up a little bit. You cannot host a wine party featuring your 1970s cheese board selection and watch your friends stand in breathless awe of your mad styling skills with store-bought blandness. These chairs have panache. They have drama. They are like that 80-year-old gentleman with the slight Italian accent who still works the tables down at the steakhouse he opened in 1957, greeting customers, ensuring everyones wine glass is full, and wearing a sharp sport coat, an ascot, and his fathers vintage gold watch. They are the furniture equivalent of a legendary opera diva who still commands the entire room the second she walks through the door, draped in vintage velvet and outsized reputation. Make no mistake. These chairs are not for just anyone. The challenge is clear, should you choose to accept it. Bring all your design and vision to bear and make these legends shine. Plus, they are a full set of four. Finding one weird statement piece is easy, but rounding up a matching set of six means you have enough mass to anchor an entire dining room table or a grand study. The Dark Academia / Library / Gothic Route: Skip the nightmare of hand-stripping turned spindles, because life is too short for that. A quick scuff-sand or liquid sandpaper wipe and a few coats of a matte espresso or deep walnut tinted spray lacquer which allows the grain to show through, or straight paint, paired with rich wine-red velvet. Pro-tip: spilled red wine practically vanishes into deep red velvet, by the way. You are welcome. The Maximalist Victorian Angle: Lean all the way into heavy, historic drama, the kind of room where Roderick Usher would brood over a stormy tarn while candlelight flickers off heavy wood paneling. The Modern Eclectic Play: Keep them as-is and pair them with an industrial live-edge slab table or mid-century modern round to create high-contrast tension. The Tailored Look: Swap the seats for black vinyl or a subtle charcoal tweed to ground that chunky frame. Paint the frames white or cream or dark gray or matte black perhaps. Hell, maybe you even want to trim down a ladder rung to bring them more into perspective or trim the top of the rungs for a little less dramatic appearance. But honestly, that high-back silhouette is nothing to be discarded lightly. Overall condition is good vintage. Chairs are structurally sound and solid. The upholstery on the seats is in good condition. One of them has some issues. It wouldnt necessarily be easy, but this type of heavy tweed yarn can actually be re-woven if you really wanted to give it a try. But reupholstery shouldnt be that hard. Just remove the seat from underneath and fold and staple the new fabric on. The overall finish is good. There are a few spots with some scuffs that can be filled in with a tinted oil if you want but they barely show. There is one spot where one of the spindles on the back has broken. Its been repaired with a metal clip. If I have a chance Im probably going to glue and repair it better but its solid for now. It could be repaired in a number of different ways. Measurements: Seat width: 20 inches Seat height: 19 in (about an inch of that is foam so they are pretty much standard 18 in sitting height) Back height: 45 in staged images created with AI for design inspiration. Please see real photos for True appearance and condition. available for pickup in Northeast seattle, Pinehurst neighborhood. Delivery could be possible around Seattle for free or a reasonable charge. The Matador’s Loggia: An Afternoon of Ghosts, Glory, and Good Sherry Andalusia. The sun here doesnt just shine; it presses down, a golden weight steeped in history. I found myself on a private, timber-beamed loggia, looking out over an endless sea of ancient olive trees toward a distant, whitewashed pueblo. I was the guest of Don Rodrigo de la Fuente. A man whose very posture commands silence. He is retired now, but click your heels, and you might just see the phantom of the plaza de toros in his gaze. He was talking, his hands sculpting the air to illustrate the perfect, dangerous art of the veronica. He spoke of blinding sun, roaring crowds, and the exact, terrifying moment of truth when the man and the beast become one. The conversation drifted, as it always does with men of that caliber, to long, hazy nights in Madrid bars with Hemingway. Rodrigo would pause, swirl his sherry, and offer a wry smile. Ah, Ernest, hed muse. He knew how to fight, and he certainly knew how to drink. We had... adventures. Then, invariably, the talk would touch upon la guerra. The war. Spains great tragedy in the 1930s. He was there, of course—a young man forged in that fire. But when I gently probed about his specific allegiances, which side he had drawn his sword for, he became... cagey. A soft chuckle, a wave of the hand, a shift in subject. In Spain, my friend, we fight for the land and the people, not the abstractions of Madrid. And surrounding us, grounding these monumental tales, were the chairs. It felt disrespectful to call them mere furniture. Consider their impossible high, undulating ladder-backs—a Spanish colonial design that doesnt just ask you to sit, but to assume a posture of command. Notice the turned spindles, as precise as lance-points, and that rich, unyielding orange-brown finish that seems to have absorbed half a century of Andalusian golden light. They are as proud and unyielding as the matador himself. On the wall behind us, the photographic evidence: a younger, fearless Rodrigo standing arm-in-arm with Papa Hemingway. And a simple brass plaque, a silent testament to history: CASA DE ALCALÁ - A REFUGE FOR THOSE WHO DWELL IN THE DANGEROUS BEAUTY OF THE BULLRING. The sherry decanter is still open on the heavy antique table. The tapas remain. The afternoon is yours. The chairs are ready for their next chapter. ladder back chairs vintage dining chairs dark academia furniture maximalist decor antique walnut wood chairs dining set of six retro dining furniture vintage seating interior design statement pieces

It is heavy and might be able to be disassembled. I just moved in here and this was left behind. I have had a few out of area scammers contact me, so please let me know you are local before I send you the address.
