Vintage Antique Chinoise Faux-Bamboo Art Deco Accent Chair 20s 30s Hollywood Regency Maximalist Eclectic Looking for a standout piece to anchor your vintage-inspired decor? This striking, high-contrast accent chair is a gorgeous example of 1920s–1930s Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie Revival style. Featuring a sleek, jet-black lacquered finish paired with its vibrant crimson velvet cushion, it commands attention in any room. This chair perfectly captures a fascinating transition era in early 20th-century design. To understand its unique look, you can look at how two major design movements intersected: The Chinoiserie & Brighton Pavilion Influence: In the late 1920s and 1930s, there was a massive resurgence of interest in traditional British Regency furniture mixed with Asian-export styles—often referred to as Chinoiserie. This style is famous for mimicking natural textures like bamboo to bring an exotic, romantic flair into western homes. The frame is crafted from split rattan or carved wood styled to look exactly like bamboo poles with pronounced knuckles or nodes. This technique mimics the famous Chinese Chippendale and Regency revival styles—often called Brighton Pavilion style, named after King George IVs famously exotic seaside palace. The 18th-Century Architecture: Look closely at the openwork backrest. The elegant, interlocking loops form a stylized urn shape heavily influenced by classic English Hepplewhite shield-back designs. The Art Deco Transformation: What makes this uniquely 20s/30s is how those historic forms were reinterpreted for the modern era. Instead of the natural, light wood tones of the Victorian era, early 20th-century craftsmen coated the frame in a stark, glossy black lacquer. Paired with a saturated jewel-toned velvet cushion, this high-contrast palette turned a delicate, traditional form into a bold, dramatic Art Deco statement piece. Good vintage condition. The seat has probably been reupholstered and is in decent condition but probably not original. Some scuffs and scratches here and there but overall in quite good cosmetic shape and good solid sturdy condition. Approximate dimensions are: Total Height: 41 inches Seat Height: 18.5 inches Total Width: 23.5 inches (across the front armrests) This isnt flimsy modern wicker—it is most likely a beautifully engineered hybrid piece built to last, made from dense, solid carved hardwood. The straight lines, tight structural angles, and uniform knuckles or nodes were meticulously turned on a lathe and reeded to give the structural strength of a hardwood chair while perfectly disguising it as bamboo. The sweeping, intricate loops in the center are crafted from flexible, genuine split cane/rattan reeds that were steamed, shaped, and anchored directly into the wooden framework. But please note, Im not completely sure of the exact materials and construction. This is just typical for the design of such chairs in this era. staged images created with AI for design inspiration. Antique Persian Sarouk rug was hand knotted in Iran (Persia) of 100% natural wool and has a cotton foundation. This rug is 90+ years old, has medium to low, wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. Beautiful colors with excellent quality, showing signs of abrash (fading) due to the use of antiquated vegetable dyes. No holes or repairs, nice and soft with a gorgeous design. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Current embargoes against Iranian goods by the U.S. should cause the value of these rugs to increase. Please see all of our rugs and other items at www.rug-auction.com. We ship too. A Sarouk rug is a type of Persian rug from Markazi Province in Iran. Sarouk (also Saruk or Sarough) rugs are those woven in the village of Saruk and also the city of Arak and the surrounding countryside. Sarouk rugs have been produced for much of the twentieth century. The early successes of the Sarouk rug are largely owed to the American market. From the 1910s to 1950s, the American Sarouk, also known as the painted Sarouk, was produced. American customers had an affinity for the Sarouk’s curvilinear and floral designs. What they did not appreciate, however, was the color, so for much of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, rugs exported from Iran were dyed to a desirable, deep, raspberry-red color, once they arrive in the USA. In the second half of the 19th century, a huge market was created for Persian carpets in Europe and in the US. Many merchants bought the old and antique Persian rugs from all over Iran and exported them to other countries. Sarouk is a village located 30 miles north of the city of Sultanabad (today called Arak). Sarouk is famous for weaving very heavy body carpets. Sarouk rugs continue to be produced today, using the same methods as during early production, with the exception of the post-production dye job. Known for their exceptional quality and ability to withstand decades of wear, Sarouks continue to be best sellers. They are made with a high quality, tough wool using a Persian knot. A telltale sign of a Sarouk is usually its salmon or tomato-red color mixed with ivory and blues, and a very traditional, floral style. The finest of the modern Sarouk rugs come from the small town of Ghiassabad.
