Vintage Hand-Wrought Copper Sculptural Tray by Cassel Industries, c.1960s Condition: Original Vintage Condition Price: $245 Dimensions: 3H x 12.50W x 9.50D This sculptural hand-wrought copper tray by Cassel Industries is a distinctive example of American Mid Century Modern metalwork from the 1960s. Formed from copper, the design features a recessed central surface surrounded by four dramatically flared and upturned corners, giving the piece an expressive organic silhouette. Subtle irregularities associated with its hand-wrought construction complement the richly aged surface, which displays warm copper tones alongside darker areas of naturally developed patina. Presented in original vintage condition, the tray retains its authentic aged character and has been carefully inspected by our studio for stability and overall integrity, with surface oxidation, patina, and signs of age consistent with its history. The stamped Cassel Industries makers mark, model number 61, and “Hand Wrought” designation on the underside further document its American manufacture and handcrafted character. Fun Historical Fact Hand-wrought copper enjoyed renewed popularity in American decorative arts during the mid-twentieth century as designers explored the visual contrast between traditional metalworking techniques and modern abstract forms. Unlike highly polished machine-produced objects, hand-worked copper naturally develops subtle variations in texture and surface that make individual pieces visually distinctive. Copper also acquires increasingly complex coloration with age, ranging from warm reddish and brown tones to darker oxidation and occasional green patination. Sculptural vessels and trays such as this one complemented the eras growing interest in organic forms, handcrafted materials, and decorative objects that could function simultaneously as useful furnishings and works of art. This Kashan Rug was hand knotted in Pakistan of 100% natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug has knots per square inch in excess of 300+. It has full wool piles and is in like new condition. Beautiful colors with highest quality. No holes, plush and soft with a gorgeous design. This rug was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate. Cleaned and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $200.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The common design of a Kashan centers around a medallion, curved linear motifs like palmettos, leaves and arabesques designs encompass it throughout its surface area. From the medallion, the work across the rugs body is densely designed, giving it a thorough amount of character and originality that sets it apart from other Persian rug styles. Many Persian Kashan rugs follow a medallion-and-corner pattern, sometimes referred to as the book-cover or Koran design. The design, which arose during the 15th and 16th centuries, takes its inspiration from the beautifully tooled leather covers that were used to bind the Koran. The covers themselves were based on the intricate patterns found in the dome of mosques. The traditional colors used in Iranian Kashans are rich reds, blues, ivory, yellow, burnt orange and sometimes green. This classic design, like all hand knotted rugs, comes in a variety of qualities. These carpets have a 100 percent wool pile on a cotton base. The pile is clipped relatively short to allow the clarity of the design to come through. These rugs are typically dense and heavy.
