For sale is a set of three (3) portable chairs that are intended to be collapsed and stored away in a small space when not in use, but quickly and conveniently expanded for use. These are all Hamilton Cosco brand chairs, model number 60-FD. The Hamilton Manufacturing Company, also called Hamilton, was founded in 1880 and produced household furniture. The Cosco Company, originally known as the Columbus Specialty Company, was founded in 1935 and they also produced household furniture. [Cosco is not to be confused with the Costco Big Box Store.] The Hamilton Cosco brand was a collaboration between these two furniture companies to make cheap furniture for consumer use, right after World War II. The particular metal folding chair was one of the products this joint collaboration created. This particular chair, the 60-FD model, was only produced in the mid-1950s. These chairs are likely about 70 years old. Its from the mid-century-modern (MCM) genre of furniture, first made popular in the 1950s. Most MCM furniture items were designed and manufactured in Denmark or other Scandinavian countries. But this particular product was designed and manufactured in the United States (USA), specifically in Columbus, Indiana, where Coscos factory was located. These chairs have classic MCM design features, including lots of straight lines with a few curves at the edges. The chairs are nearly entirely made of gold-colored metal tubes. Due to the generous use of these metal tubes, the chairs are extremely sturdy and robust. The only non-metallic materials are in the seat cushion, which is made with internal padding, with a beige-colored vinyl surface fabric. Given that they are intended to be portable chairs, they are somewhat lightweight, weighing about 15 pounds each. These portable chairs fold down into a smaller unit for convenient storage. When in the folded position, each chair measures about 17 wide, 5 deep, and 32 tall. When stacked on each other, all three chairs occupy a vertical space less than 15 tall. But each chair can be expanded for use. These are not the typical folding chairs, which typically have front legs that hinge out together. Instead, these chairs use a gate-fold design, which was an MCM design feature. Gate fold chairs (or gatefold chairs) have a specific design where the leg panels pivot 90 degrees, resembling a gate. To expand the chair, you first pivot, by 90 degrees, one leg section. And then you independently pivot, by 90 degrees, the other leg. Finally, you fold down and lock the seat cushion into the two legs sections. Pictures 3 to 6 shows these steps for expanding the chair. To collapse the chair, you simply reverse these steps. When in the expanded position, each chair measures about 17 wide, 17 deep, and 32 tall. The seat cushion measures about 16 wide and 15 deep. The seat cushion rests about 17.5 off of the ground. The backrest measures about 17 wide and 14 tall. All three chairs are in excellent structural and functional condition. The metal tubes are all in excellent shape. The gate fold mechanism works great. The seat cushions are still sturdy. The chairs are in pretty good cosmetic condition. But there is a lot of wearing away of the gold-colored surface paint on many locations. But these are merely cosmetic concerns, that dont harm the structural integrity of the chairs. You can pick up from my house near the San Jose Airport. You can easily fit this into a standard sized passenger car. Or I would be happy to deliver it to you, if I happen to travel out in your direction. I prefer that you reach out via text message. Sending an initial email message is OK. This set of 6 antique Jacobean style dining chairs have all been re-glued and painted black with a polyurethane finish for maximum, protection. The chairs are now in like new condition and are as sturdy as the day they were made, probably in the 1930 s. The seats have been reupholstered and they are now ready for a new home. There are 5 side chairs and 1 captains chair with arms. The side chair seats measure 18 wide and are 18.5 high. The back of the chairs are 41 high. The captains chair seat is 24 wide and 18 hight and the back is also 41 high. The arms are 28.5 high. I have a Jacobean table that is painted black in the middle that these chairs could go with. This guy is a scammer. Sold me a Samsung cell phone as in the ad and rushed me as I was checking. Looked ok. My sim worked to call but that was it.
