I have a set of 15 David Rowland stacking chairs. These are very solid chairs that are so famous for their design, there is literally 1 of them sitting in the MOMA in New York.See details belowThe chairs are all stackable. Most have interlocking braces to hold the chairs together in a row. If you see this listing, they are still for sale. I will update the quantity when they sell, but my hope is some 1 will buy the whole lot. The cheapest I’ve been able to find these chairs anywhere is $150 per chair. Some sites have them listed for $550.Links below. All the funds raised from selling these chairs will go toward a good cause. Prices are as follows: Price: 1-2: $115 each 3-5: $100 each 6-10: $80 each Entire lot: $900$60 each — The Howe 40/4 chair, designed by David Rowland in 1964, is renowned for its minimalist, ergonomic design that allows 40 chairs to stack within 4 feet giving the model its name. It has a triple-curved seat with a waterfall edge that prevents thigh pressure and a sled frame made of solid steel rod that keeps the center of gravity low for stable, easy handling. Key design features include: * Versatile Materials: Available in steel rod frames with seats/backs made from wood veneer, polyamide, or upholstery, as well as a distinct wood frame version. * Ergonomic Comfort: The design promotes blood circulation and supports natural body contours, suitable for long periods of sitting in conferences, dining, or waiting areas. * Stacking Efficiency: The chair can be stacked up to 40 units high on a dollyusing polyamide or veneeror 25 units high if upholstered, maximizing space efficiency. * Durability: Built for severe contract use. * The chair is widely considered 1 of the most significant designs of the 20 th century, with over 10 million units sold since its introduction. https://davidrowland.design/404-chair/ Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40/4 Chair Manufacturer page: https://www.howe.com/us/products/chairs/404/ https://www.howe.com/us/products/chairs/404/404-side-chair/ More product pages: https://www.alpha-furnishing.com/howe-40-4-chair/ https://www.treskechurchfurniture.com/item/howe-404-stacking-chair Product PDF: https://s 3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/livingedge-web/files/10/oe/6 t/404 Side_Chair_Brochure.pdf — Other listings found: The cheapest listing I found was for $150 per chair: https://www.ebay.com/itm/286708978112 ThinkFurniture - $300 each https://www.think-furniture.com/howe-40-4-stackable-chair/ Etsy listing - $350 each https://www.etsy.com/listing/136-315-8257/1-of-5-designer-chair-howe-404-chair?show_sold_out_detail=1 ref=nla_listing_details Ebay listing for $650 each: https://ebay.io/m/fMmD 9 I An Ebay listing selling 8 of them for $4,400: https://www.ebay.com/itm/186672099731

Set of 4 Antique Vintage 1890s 1900s Pressback Oak Dining Chairs with Caned Seats Farmhouse Country Cottage Cabin Boho Maximalist (No Table) These are not the sort of fragile, spindly chairs designed for delicate aunts who drink tea with their pinkies out. They are sturdy, turn-of-the-century oak—the kind of honest American furniture that sat through thirty years of Sunday roasts, withstands the sudden arrival of large dogs, and remains quietly indifferent to changing fashions. Built between 1890 and 1910, they feature steam-bent crests with pressed floral scrollwork, turned spindles, and woven cane seats that have outlasted most of the people who originally sat in them. Up for sale is a charming set of four late 1800s to early 1900s pressback oak dining chairs. Characterized by their pressed-wood crest rails featuring detailed floral scrollwork, turned spindles, and classic cane/rush woven seats, these pieces represent the height of turn-of-the-century American manufacturing. During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, advancements in steam-bending and mechanical press-molding allowed makers to produce intricate, carved-look detailing that brought traditional craftsmanship into everyday American homes. Condition & Maintenance Notes: The chairs are in fair to good antique condition overall, structurally sound and sturdy, with the woven cane seats in great shape for their age. Full transparency: one of the back spindles is broken. Replacing it is possible, but it would take quite a bit of doing—it’s probably best to just call it well-earned patina, attesting to a life well lived. Or, who knows? It may have been broken by Grandfather demonstrating proper cavalry techniques. See bonus story at the end. 😀 I also see one spot that seems to be a crack in the back, see pic. But it doesnt seem to be loose or splitting. Aside from that single spindle and the minor crack, they are remarkably complete and in good condition. The original finish displays a rich, natural oak patina that does not need stripping or restaining at all. They just need a simple clean and nourishment—a quick wash with Murphy’s Oil Soap, followed by an application of boiled linseed oil or similar, and a coat of wood-replenishing paste wax, will bring out the natural wood grain and restore their luster. For now, Im a bit busy, so I have priced them accordingly to pass along the savings and clear some space, giving you a chance to pick up a solid antique set for a low entry price, put in a little sweat equity to refresh them as you like, and enjoy the honest satisfaction of an afternoons work well done. Approximate dimensions are as follows: Seat Height: 17 Backrest Height: 41 in Seat Width: 18 Staged images created with AI for design inspiration. Please see real photos for true appearance and condition, and feel free to request more information or come see them in person. Available for pickup in Northeast Seattle, Pinehurst neighborhood. Delivery may be possible around the Seattle area for free or a reasonable charge. Bonus: The Legend of the Missing Spindle It happened on a damp Thursday in November 1912, the same night my Grandfather became convinced the parlor radiator was harboring a runaway union organizer. Grandfather was not a man who sat in chairs so much as he launched an amphibious assault upon them. He was a hefty man, given to sudden, violent oratorical gestures concerning the gold standard or the decline of local blacksmithing. On this particular evening, he was attempting to demonstrate to my Uncle Roy how a proper cavalry mount ought to be ridden, using the third pressback oak chair from the left as an improvised charger. He swung a leg over the backrest with the thunderous enthusiasm of a man half his age and twice his sanity. The chair, constructed of solid Midwestern oak and sheer stubbornness, held its ground remarkably well under the initial impact. It was only when Grandfather attempted to execute a hasty parade-ground turn to cut off an imaginary regiment of Spanish infantry that the sound occurred. It wasnt a crack so much as a dry, indignantly loud pop—the sound of a single oak spindle deciding it had fulfilled its duty to the Republic and formally tendering its resignation. Grandfather did not fall. The chair simply leaned two inches to the left, like an old ironclad taking on a modest amount of bilge water. Grandfather paused, mid-charge, glared at the floorboards as though they had committed treason, and declared that furniture had simply been better made in 1874. The spindle was never replaced. To replace it would have been an admission that Grandfather had been defeated by an armchairs-worth of steam-bent wood. Instead, the missing spindle remained a permanent war hero, a silent testament to the night the Spanish cavalry was turned back in the dining room. antique oak chairs, pressback dining chairs, vintage cane seat, press back chair, Victorian furniture, Edwardian dining chairs, turn of the century, antique seating, set of 4 dining chairs, pressed oak, spindle back, farmhouse decor, country cottage, rustic dining, eclectic decor, furniture restoration project, DIY furniture, wood refresh, vintage home, Seattle furniture, Pinehurst pickup
