And there are few if any in the same price range that can match the Dell UltraSharp U2410 Wide Gamut Monitor. Made to meet the standards of the most exacting, it is worthy of the part it is engineered to play in your digital photography workflow. What sets it apart, chiefly, is that it features In-plane Switching (IPS) technology, the superior of the two basic LCD monitor technologies that exist. Not all LCDs are created equal. Those using the cheaper Twisted Nematic (TN) technology are far less cut out for the job of photo editing. They make it practically impossible to know how much to adjust the various image characteristics there are to adjust (e.g., color saturation, tint, temperature, exposure, contrast, gama, etc.) because the intensity they appear to have changes dramatically as the viewing angle changes. Whereas IPS monitors are more like the CRT monitors of old insofar as they keep the image on the screen stable when viewing from various angles. Making it possible to establish a baseline. And there is little discrepancy between the image you see on the screen and the printed image. Translation: After doing all kinds of editing and getting an image to look just how you want, it doesn’t suddenly look like a completely different image the second you move from your seat, or tilt the screen, or in any other way change your viewing angle ever so slightly—as if you hadn’t even done all the work you did. And there are no major surprises when you print. The wide gamut characteristics of this monitor are a close second in terms of what makes it ideal for digital photography. About which there is plenty of information available online. I personally found this monitor to be an indispensable color management tool. And aside from using it for post- processing work, I used it in lieu of a television for the enhanced viewing experience the high image quality provides when displaying slideshows, movies and so forth.
