There, stacked under a canvas tarp smelling of sea salt and old mahogany, were several beautiful rattan swivels. The proprietor, a retired ship captain named Soler, swore they’d been steam-bent by hand in a family workshop up in the hills using old-world jigs. Built for the high seas, J., he told me, pouring two fingers of dark rum. Or at least a very lively cocktail hour. I sat in one, rotated 360 degrees to watch the rain slide off the palm fronds outside, and knew right then they belonged in the catalog. They had that rare balance: rugged steam-curved poles, effortless tropical posture, and a smooth, unhurried swivel that practically demands a cold drink in your hand. Vintage Antique 1890s Embossed Tin Camelback Trunk Eclectic Maximalist Victorian Industrial A Beautiful Piece of Traveling History - Ready for a New Home! I came across this incredible late 1800s Victorian era ornamental embossed tin camelback trunk right here in the Seattle area. We can only imagine how it got here or what adventures it has been on before then. If you love antique pieces with genuine character, this is a phenomenal find that doesnt take up a massive amount of space. This trunk features a high, gracefully curved humpback (or camelback) lid design. Historically, these rounded lids were highly prized because baggage handlers on steamships and trains were forced to place them at the very top of the luggage pile so they wouldnt tip over, protecting the expensive embossed tin exterior and structural wood slats from being crushed by flat-top trunks. Excellent Structural Condition: Considering its age, this trunk is in remarkably solid shape. The heavy wood slats and stout iron straps are structurally sound and ready for use. The leather handles are intact although perhaps they could use a little antique leather conditioner and probably shouldnt be relied upon for heavy lifting. The exterior boasts a gorgeous, authentic weathered patina that tells the story of its 140-year journey across the country. You can absolutely leave it exactly as-is for that rugged, primitive look, or it serves as the perfect canvas for a light technical restoration. A gentle cleaning with mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil on the wood perhaps, and a fresh coat of clear finish toner would beautifully bring out the intricate detailing of the embossed tin and the rich grain of the wood slats. No Musty Odor: The biggest deterrent with old trunks is usually a damp smell. This one has been kept dry and does not smell like mildew. It is clean and ready to store your blankets, board games, or winter clothes. Ideal Size: Unlike massive, flat-top wardrobe trunks that are difficult to fit into a room, this compact size is perfect to use as a unique coffee table, an entryway console, or an end-of-bed blanket chest. Compared to his more commonly seen Eva chairs, the Ingrid model is notably rarer, making this an excellent opportunity for collectors and design enthusiasts alike...they represent everything Danish Modern is known for: honest materials, thoughtful proportions and timeless beauty. The Ingrid model is known for its graceful, organic lines, gently curved backrests and beautifully tapered legs. Vintage 50s 60s Norquist Coronet Wonderfold folding chair walnut MCM mid-century modern black This is a classic mid-century modern folding chair typically in sets of four or six. It is a no-arm side chair. Mainly listing for someone that needs to complete a set, but if you just want one chair for your table or desk or in a corner or by your door when you put your shoes on, this would be a great choice. It has clean elegant lines in a classic 50s 60s mid-century style. As you can see from the tag, this is tagged as made by the ebonite Corp. They make bowling alley and other similar things. While I could not find anything online about them acquiring norquist, I think there must have been a relationship perhaps in the 70s still making the same style. From everything I can see, it is identical. But if you are concerned, we could take more detailed measurements and compare to make sure it will be a good match. You are welcome to bring one of yours to compare. If shipped, we can double check some pictures and measurements to make sure. Overall good condition. The bottom piece has a couple of small tears. As it is not sewn, it would be very easy to redo it, or they could just be glued a little bit to look pretty unnoticeable. The wood is good overall sturdy and not scratched up.
