ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly, professional and courteous manner both in person and on the telephone. • Schedules appointments for all providers to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and exam room availability. • Utilize a variety of electronic systems to ensure patients are registered and all necessary demographic and/or financial information is entered into the patient record. • Assist patients with checking in and registration in new online system answering questions as needed. • Update patients financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, providing patients with transaction receipts. • Checks/verifies patient’s insurance eligibility/sliding fee status prior to and at each visit. • Communicates appointment changes to patients and staff. • Comfort patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties; answering patients’ questions and/or referring them to the appropriate clinical staff. • Respond to patient inquiries promptly, and follow-up on patient issues and resolutions to ensure quality customer service. • Assist patients with patient portal – showing them how to sign up, send messages, have telehealth visits, etc. • Ensure that the waiting area is maintained neat and well organized. • Learn and promote APLA Health’s services, facilities, and programs and be able to direct patients/guests accordingly. • Participate in special projects to promote a wider range of APLA Health clinical and non-clinical services thereby contributing to efforts to meet contract goals and reach quality markers. • Protect patients rights by maintaining strictest confidentiality of personal and financial information; adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. • Understand and comply with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. • Assist in orientation of new personnel as directed. • Work as a contributing team member and act in a professional and respectful manner at all times. • Comply with all standard operating policies and protocols of APLA Health & Wellness. • Effectively communicate with clients/patients in English and Spanish as required per aforementioned job duties OTHER SPECIFIC DUTIES/TASKS MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS. REQUIREMENTS: Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED required; AA degree preferred. Experience working in a medical office preferred; or two (2) years of other customer service experience. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Knowledgeable about insurance plans as well as Medi-Cal/Medicare. Knowledge of: Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of electronic health records preferred. Ability to: • Must be extremely organized and detailed oriented • Must have excellent communications and written skills • Strong telephone etiquette • Must have a courteous, professional nature and customer service oriented • Must maintain a strict discipline in time management with a focus on quality • Knowledgeable about insurance plans, Medi-Cal / Medicare • Good computer and typing skills. • Bilingual required – English/Spanish WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. T is seeking an energetic, reliable, and compassionate Support Staff Professional to assist him live a full, athletic, and adventure-filled life. Meet T... T is a 41-year-old man with cerebral palsy and Dravet Syndrome who brings serious determination to everything he does. He’s athletic, motivated, and refuses to let his challenge limit his goals. He swims 2-3 times weekly, loves to go on runs and walks, rides a tandem road bike, participates in triathlons, and loves mixing in fun outdoor outings and educational adventures. T’s Dravet Syndrome includes seizures that are well managed with medication and do not occur frequently. When they do occur, they typically last under one minute and most of the time happen while he is sleeping. Support staff will receive training and guidance related to health and safety needs as outlined in his care plans. Safety, respect, and person-centered support are core to how T’s and his team approach daily life and activities. What We Mean by “Athletic” This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys movement and can safely keep up with an active day. Athletic can include any of the following: regular swimming, running, cycling, hiking, strength training, coaching, or similar. You do not need to be an elite athlete. You should be comfortable being on your feet, assisting with mobility, and participating in active outings. This is a hands-on role for someone who’s comfortable providing a high level of personal care and who can support T’s mobility and safety while he uses a gait belt. T is approximately 95 lbs. You’ll be part of a supportive home environment where person-centered care, respect, and teamwork matter. A solid foundation in healthy living and nutrition is a big plus. What You’ll Do... Support Staff provide hands-on care and guidance at home and in the community, following T’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Person-Centered Plan (PCP). Responsibilities include: - Assist with personal care and hygiene routines (feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting). - Support safe mobility and movement using a gait belt and steadying assistance. - Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals; help maintain a clean and organized home environment. - Support health and safety at home and out in the community and facilitate daily movement, exercise, swimming, and active outings. - Provide light pet care as needed, including feeding and occasional walks for Harry the dog. - Balance T’s preferences, goals, dignity, and safety in every activity. - Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and meaningful community involvement. - Maintain professionalism, reliability, clear communication, and a positive attitude. - Document daily activities and key events clearly and consistently. Pay and Schedule: - $23.00/hour or DOE - Part-time, full-time and On-Call available, immediate hire. - Shifts are available Monday–Friday (mornings, afternoons, evenings). - Sunday evening shifts are a possibility as well. - Possible future overnight shifts/coverage available as well. - Flexible scheduling may be available. Driving and Travel: - Use of your personal vehicle is required (travel between Los Angeles County and Orange County). - Travel reimbursement: $0.70 per mile while traveling with T. Who You Are: - Open heart + open mind, willing to learn and grow in person-centered care. - Experience with personal care preferred. - 18+ and legally able to work in the U.S. - College education preferred. - Able to clear a background check; Live Scan fingerprinting required (candidate financially responsible if selected for hire).
