This is the fabulous and famous Mark Kostabi print Checking In With The Girls Upstairs, a Giclée print in color with oil pen drawings on canvas and hand-signed in oil by the artist in 2021. This canvas-framed, Artist Proof (number 9 of 9) is very rare and valuable. This gorgeous painting on the canvas frame measures 17 x 25.5 and is excellent, like-new condition. We live in Fairfield, CT just off exit 27 on the Merritt Parkway (formerly exit 44) or I could easily ship this gorgeous print to you via carefully packed, insured FedEx Ground for $45 after I receive your payment. Heres more information on Mark Kostabi: Checking In With The Girls Upstairs is a vibrant, limited-edition, hand-embellished giclée print on canvas by American neo-surrealist artist Mark Kostabi, featuring his signature faceless figures alongside a colorful piano keyboard. An Artist Proof (AP) denotes an impression outside of the regular numbered edition reserved for the artists personal use or special proofing purposes. Artist Proofs are highly sought after by collectors as they are often more rare than the standard numbered editions (typically limited to an AP run of just 10–99 pieces out of the whole edition). Mark Kostabi is unquestionably one of the most recognizable icons to emerge from New York’s legendary 1980s East Village art scene. A contemporary of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kostabi invented a wholly unique art style that has resonated with audiences around the globe. His universal, faceless figures inhabit surreal worlds of colors and contrasts. Worlds where his subjects interact with themes of love, isolation, technology, and modern anxieties. Driven by his lifelong passion for art, Kostabi studied his craft at California State University. At the age of 19, he began selling his designs to galleries in Los Angeles and quickly attracted celebrity collectors. In 1982, he moved to New York, arguably the center of the art world at the time. Kostabi thrived in the city’s fertile art community, but his career skyrocketed after he was inspired by one of his artistic heroes, Andy Warhol. Warhol was famous for founding “The Factory,” the notorious art studio where Warhol would work with artists and artisans to mass-produce his famous designs. Kostabi, in turn, took that model to the next level. In the tradition of Warhol’s Factory or Picasso’s work with the ceramic artisans in Vallauris, Kostabi created “Kostabi World,” a studio in New York where he would work with teams of artists to create artwork in his trademark “Kostabi-style.” “Kostabi World” became such an art world sensation that Kostabi was profiled in People Magazine, CNN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and thousands of other media outlets. During this publicity frenzy, Kostabi took great pleasure in antagonizing the media. He would provoke reporters with claims that others created his art or draw them into debates about art authorship. Meanwhile, the artist enjoyed endless free publicity for his mischievous jabs at the press. However, despite his playful comments, Kostabi always remained the true “author” of his artwork, a fact that is bolstered by the impressive awards and honors he has received throughout his career. One particular highlight occurred during the height of the Cold War when Kostabi collaborated with a team of artists to create original Kostabi paintings in Russia. This led to Kostabi being featured at his own sold-out show at the Hermitage, making him the only contemporary Western artist ever to have a modern art show in Russia before the fall of the Soviet Union. Today, Kostabi splits his time between New York and Rome, now painting more than ever before, and continues the work of “Kostabi World” as he brings his exceptional, enigmatic art to collectors worldwide. Kostabi’s early years in California played a significant role in shaping his artistic perspective. In addition to being at the forefront of the entertainment industry, Southern California was also a burgeoning think-tank for conceptual art, which had its first wave in early twentieth-century Paris, moved on to New York City in mid-century, and found an inspired resurgence in the greater Los Angeles area in the 1970s, when Kostabi was a student at California State University, Fullerton. During that period, the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia was emerging as a vital center for conceptual art, which stresses the primacy of an artist’s ideas over anything else. Kostabi’s paintings are easily identifiable by their characteristic faceless robotic figures who engage in a variety of activities that suggest poetic or metaphoric meanings. Overall, these paintings are largely philosophical, with many positing probable truths or posing unanswerable questions about the nature of being. His recurring subjects include romantic love, identity, artistic expression, the impact of pop culture and social media on modern life, and the erasure of human individuality. “I’m consciously reflecting the time we live in,” Kostabi has said. “In the 80s, I was painting faceless figures with Walkman radios and boom boxes and backpack computers because that was the new thing back then. But that’s all gone and now the Kostabi figures have iPhones.” ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Kostabi’s artwork currently appears in over 50 permanent museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the National Gallery in Washington D.C., the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, and the Groninger Museum in Holland. Retrospective exhibitions of Kostabi’s paintings have been held at the Mitsukoshi Museum in Tokyo (1992) and the Art Museum of Estonia in Tallinn (1998). The famous Italian art historian and curator, Vittorio Sgarbi, curated a vast exhibition of 150 Kostabi paintings at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome in 2006. Kostabi’s permanent public works include a mural in Palazzo dei Priori in Arezzo, Italy, a large bronze sculpture in the central square of San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, and a bronze portrait of Pope John Paul II in Velletri, Italy. Kostabi’s famous collectors range from Bill Clinton to Luciano Pavarotti and include notable celebrities, dignitaries, and royalty like Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, Brooke Shields, Axl Rose, Debbie Harry, Billy Wilder, Sylvester Stallone, Bill Gates, Aaron Spelling, Norman Lear, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and countless others. He has also been profiled on 60 Minutes, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung, A Current Affair, Nightwatch (with Charlie Rose), The Oprah Winfrey Show, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, Nonsolomoda, West 57th, CNN, MTV, and numerous television programs throughout Europe and Japan. NBC even built an entire episode of the hit show Miami Vice around his artwork. In print, he has been featured in The New York Times, People, Vogue, Architectural Digest, The Face, Playboy, Forbes, New York Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph, Domus, Corriera Della Sera, Panorama, Artforum, Art in America, ARTnews, Flash Art, Arte, Arte In, and Tema Celeste. The many books published about Kostabi include Sadness Because the Video Rental Store Was Closed, Kostabi: The Early Years, Conversations with Kostabi, The Rhythm of Inspiration, Mark Kostabi and the East Village Scene 1983-1987, and Mark Kostabi in the 21st Century. Another major milestone in Kostabi’s career occurred when the popular band Guns ‘N’ Roses chose his artwork as the cover for their acclaimed double-album “Use Your Illusion,” which has sold over 35 million copies.

It works in concert with the EOS 550Ds CMOS Image Sensor to achieve phenomenal levels of performance in nearly any situation. ISO 100-6400 (Expandable to 12800) For Shooting From Bright to Dim Light The EOS 550D features an expanded ISO range that makes shooting possible in situations previously unthinkable without flash. With an ISO rating up to 6400 (expandable to ISO 12800), along with the DIGIC 4 Image Processors improved noise-reduction technology, creative possibilities abound. EOS Movie Mode Has Manual Exposure, Expanded Recording Modes, and Improved Sound Quality. Designed for the evolving, tech-savvy user, the EOS 550D features HD Video capture technologies - manual exposure control for more creative control, for example - borrowed directly from professional Canon SLRs to capture stellar video with all the benefits of shooting with an SLR. By shooting video with the EOS 550D, photographers as well as filmmakers can take advantage of the creative features native to SLR cameras. Along with its manual controls, the EOS 550D allows for full use of Canon EF and EF-S lenses, including Macro and Fisheye, providing a plethora of shooting options once reserved only for still photography. The resulting HD video is a standout in its beautiful depth-of-field characteristics and remarkable capture capability under poor lighting conditions. Enhanced 63-Zone, Dual-Layer Metering System and 9-point AF System The EOS 550D features Canons newest dual-layer sensor, with 63-zones. By measuring not only the amount of light, but also taking into account color and luminosity, this new system delivers a very high level of accuracy for better results every time. Since the metering sensor has a color measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimized. Thus, the EOS 550D gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as sports on a cloudy day, or indoor holiday scenes. Additionally, the EOS 550D has a high-precision, 9-point AF system utilizing a high precision, f/2.8 cross-type center point. The 9-point AF system uses both normal and high-precision focus depending on the aperture and available light. The 9 focus points can be chosen automatically or manually selected. For some RELATED ITEMS please search on Craigs List for Watercolor Portaits of Wildlife of Canada’s Pacific Coast . A single image would be $ 20 for either one. There is a style of art painting called ‘impasto’ which yields raised and textured figures on a surface. These two pieces are NOT impasto, as they are not painted, but the images do share, to great visual effect, a similar raised surface of the gold shapes on their white background. Handsome ! The First Nations people of Canada have strong traditional beliefs about their origin and their surroundings, including about key denizens of the animal kingdom in their homelands in western Canada along the mainland Pacific coast and especially on islands in the Pacific. These designs are from the Haida culture which has been in these homelands for many centuries. The Raven and the Bear, in all their forms, figure prominently in Haida oral traditions, songs, and art, as seen very often by outsiders in the form of figures carved and painted on poles called crest poles, as in “family crests” in European cultures. The term “totem” is not Haida as that term originated in the Great Lakes region. These were bought in southeast Alaska, a traditional Haida homeland, in 2002 as they spoke strongly to the Haidas’ reverance and respect for both the Raven and all Bears. The first one shown, The Raven and the First Men , and the second one, The Bear Mother , were both original works by the Haida artist, Bill Reid and reproduced with his authorization. The top half of the text shown for each image on its reverse gives a small biography of Bill Reid and the bottom half contains an explanation about the Raven and the Bear as pictured. This offer is for unframed images but the third and sixth photos show them as they might look in frames you might employ; these frames are not included. Each image is mounted and double-matted on a thick, sturdy light beige matte board measuring 10” x 13”. If you wanted to de-mat it, the image inside the mat is 6 ½” x 8 ½”, although the images as mounted would look very nice going right into a conventional frame using the mats holding them.
