Japanese Jubako Wood Three 3 Tiered Lunch Box Lacquer Round Multicolor Antique Vintage Koma Nuri SPINNING TOP Three TIERS ROUND JUBAKO BENTO BOX Turned Wood* This colorful three-tiered Jubako Bento box is decorated with Koma(spinning top)-nuri and Tame-nuri, two of Yamanaka Lacquerwares distinctive features. Koma-nuri (spinning top lacquring) was popular among the common people in the mid-Edo period and refers to an eye-catching, multicolored lacquering technique. The result looks like Japanese spinning tops, which is said to bring good luck, and this lavishly colored design is perfect for festive banquets such as New Years. Tame-nuri is a lacquerware technique in which a middle coat of lacquer is applied and then polished with a coat of tame-nuri lacquer, so that the more time passes, the more transparent and vivid the base color becomes. Since the lacquer is a transparent candy-colored lacquer, the color of the visible lacquer will vary depending on the color of the lacquer used for the base. The evenly spaced lines are a characteristic decoration of Yamanaka lacquerware. This decorative method is called suji-biki, in which fine lines are made parallel to the surface of the wood by applying a blade to the wood while the lathe is turning. JUBAKO BENTO BOXES Jubako bento boxes make cuisine instantly look more elegant. Just pack the box to instantly elevate any meal. As a delightful hosting bonus, they also create a sense of excitement when the lid is opened. This set of jubako boxes are stylish and will change the atmosphere of your dining table into a gorgeous one. LACQUERWARE Japanese lacquerware, also called shikki in Japanese, is a proud handicraft with a long history dating back to 5,000 BCE, and traditional methods are still followed today. Durable, light, antibacterial, and robust enough to endure for more than one hundred years, Japanese lacquerware is not only beautiful, but also highly functional. Turned wood* The artisan has used a ‘koma’ or spinning top design which is the traditional design from the island of Shikoku. Concentric raised circles in varying bright colors of green, red, yellow and black lacquer gives this accessory a real spinning top moment. Natural lacquer inside. Estimated early 20th century from Kyoto, Japan. Approximate Measurements: Width - 7.25 inch. Depth - 7.25 inch. Height - 7.7 inch *Turned wood marks the begining of the industrial revolution, late 16th early 17thC. Having discovered the cosmic experience of the earth and moon turning around the sun, it was like a philosophical experience, for pleasure by bringing the philosophical concept to everyday, tea experience and playful tops. $1 each or 50c for each if you buy them all (knives have bees sold) This is Soviet-era silver-plated flatware, specifically spoons, forks and knives indicated by the hallmarks on the handles. The Cyrillic letters МНЦ stand for мельхиор, нейзильбер, цинк (melchior, nickel silver, zinc), indicating the base metal alloy is nickel silver, which has been plated. The numbers 2-30 and 2-50 likely refer to the amount of silver plating in micrometers or a related standard. The other symbols are makers marks from a specific factory in the former USSR.
