The top is made from solid oak boards, not veneer. The visible grain and separate planks are consistent with solid wood. The large center trestle beam and massive turned pedestal legs indicate a high-quality, heavy construction. The rows of corrugated fasteners (wavy metal staples) joining the boards are a traditional furniture-making method used by many manufacturers from the 1970s through the 1990s.
