Executive Director (Part-Time) https://planetprotectorssb.org/ Planet Protectors – Santa Barbara, CA Pay: $25.00 – $27.00 per hour About Planet Protectors Planet Protectors is a community-based 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit in Santa Barbara dedicated to reducing plastic pollution and educating the public about the realities of plastic recycling. We collect and recycle “hard-to-recycle” plastics—specifically #2 and #4 film plastics—to keep them out of landfills, waterways, and our environment. Community members who participate become “Planet Protectors,” helping us create a cleaner, healthier future for Santa Barbara. Position Overview Planet Protectors is seeking a part-time Executive Director (approximately 25 hours per week) to lead administrative operations, grow membership and fundraising programs, and oversee day-to-day organizational functions. This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven, community-oriented leader who thrives in a small nonprofit environment and enjoys building systems, partnerships, and impact. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and volunteer teams to strengthen the organization’s capacity and support sustainable growth. Key Responsibilities Organizational Leadership & Administration Oversee day-to-day nonprofit operations Implement and improve organizational systems, policies, and workflows Manage budgets, expenses, and financial reporting in coordination with the Treasurer Coordinate board meetings, prepare materials, and support governance Membership & Community Engagement Manage the “Planet Protector” membership community Oversee communication with members, volunteers, and partners Represent the organization at community events and outreach activities Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and coordination Fundraising & Development Develop and execute fundraising strategies (donor cultivation, events, online giving) Maintain donor database, acknowledgments, and reporting Identify and pursue grant opportunities, including proposal writing when applicable Program Support Oversee logistics for film-plastic drop-off and recycling programs Support public education efforts (newsletters, social media, presentations, community tabling) Track and report plastic collection data and environmental impact metrics Qualifications Required Strong organizational and administrative skills Excellent written and verbal communication Experience in nonprofit operations, administration, fundraising, or related fields Ability to work independently and within a volunteer-driven environment Passion for environmental sustainability and community impact Preferred Experience with donor management or CRM systems Grant writing experience Event planning or volunteer coordination experience Knowledge of recycling, waste reduction, or environmental issues (or willingness to learn) Schedule & Compensation Approximately 25 hours per week (remote + in-person work in Santa Barbara) Flexible scheduling Compensation: $25.00 – $27.00 per hour (DOE) Opportunity for growth as the organization expands Benefits Flexible schedule Employee discount (if applicable) Meaningful work with a positive community and environmental impact Work Location Santa Barbara, CA 93101
