Antique Persian Bidjar runner was hand knotted in Iran of 100% natural wool with a cotton foundation. This rug is 90+ years old and has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. Beautiful colors with excellent quality. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Recent embargoes by the U.S. against Iranian goods should cause the value of these rugs to increase. Please see all of our rugs and other items at www.rug-auction.com. We ship too. Bidjar is the name of a small Kurdish town in western Iran. These Kurdish carpets are known for their firm knotting. Kurdish carpets are often very strong and compact, which makes them extremely durable. The weavers use their heavy comb, made of metal and wood, to beat the weft and the knots, so that the pile almost stands up. The surface of the pile, therefore, becomes very compact, which prevents gravel and other small particles to be pressed into the carpet. The carpets are made with Turkish knots and are generally red and blue with beige elements. Bidjar rugs are robust and dirt resistant. The positive effect: the rug benefits from a long-life span. The Persian carpets from Bidjar are available in almost all sizes. Their high knot density shows the high effort involved in production. Because their designs are often restrained and unobtrusive, they can be used in many environments.
