Antique Sewing machine built into wooden table. Machine easily folds away in a matter of seconds so that machine is completely hidden. Can be used as a regular table at that point. Machine folds out again just as quickly easily so it can be used for sewing. I was told by original owner‘s family that this was likely made in the 1890s but potentially the very early 1900s. I was told this still has all of its original parts plus a bunch of spare/ extra parts. Even includes antique thread on the wooden spools. Also includes other sewing antiques that I don’t know the name for. Still has original instructions-- but they are so old they are crumbling into pieces. All handmade including original stunning woodwork and other handcrafted detailing such as inlaid gold ruler along length of machine. Original hand painted detailing on machine as well. This belonged to a friends great grandmother. My friend inherited it and then I bought it when she moved abroad. But it really doesnt fit my space anymore. It is really cool though. Theres also a cloth cover with a mid-century modern pattern that my friends mother made in the 1960s. My understanding is only piece needed to make this completely functional again is a new fan belt to attach foot pedal’s wheel to the sewing machine itself. Apparently you can get those pretty cheaply and easily. but I dont sew so I never bothered. So obviously I don’t know this for sure, but several people who are knowledgeable about this type of thing and the previous owner all reached the same conclusion after examining the peace. Table’s wood finish needs a little work. Imperfections are really only visible when sewing machine is folded away. Imperfections move to the underside of the table extension when it is unfolded to allow access to sewing machine. The imperfections are then on the underside of table extension. You would have to get down on ground and look at table from below to see them. This would be an easy restoration project— refinishing would likely just take some sanding and polyurethane. Would make a great starter project for someone new to woodworking, restoration and/or refinishing. One option I considered repeatedly was just painting the top while leaving the rest with the original wood finish. I really think that would look great. But I knew Id be selling it sooner rather than later, so I decided to leave decision to the next owner. Other than what is specifically mentioned above, as shown in photos, it seems to be in great shape. When sewing machine is folded away dimensions are 31 H X 33 W X 17.5 D. When table top folded out to reveal sewing machine table extension is formed and the machine’s width becomes 49.5, Metal sewing machine detaches from table allowing easy transport.
