Here is why: Here is a very rare opportunity to own a unique American made hi-end amp and preamp of mid 1980s vintage. With their patented distortions canceling technology circuits these KInergetics units have both a sound quality and build quality that makes them a one of a kind audio products. These are not consumer grade electronics but industrial grade build quality: heavy gauge steel chassis, no plastic, the highest quality electronic components. Anything comparable on todays market would be several times the price of these, and there is nothing comparable. There are no, what would be very dated sounding, IC opamps. All of the gain stages are built with discrete transistors. The phono stage uses passive RIAA equalization between two or the discrete gain stages. In each stage is their patented hysteresis compensation correction circuit. More about this below. The KBA-200 Dual Mono Power Amp has two massive power supply transformers, four massive power supply filter capacitors, massive heatsink and 16 output transistors and weighing in at 59 pounds. It uses polypropylene capacitors, metal film resistors for an amazing 100 volts/microsecond slew rate and 200 watts into 8 ohms with a full-power bandwidth from 1 to 400,000 Hz. The KBA-200 was a lot of amp for the money, and it still is. The KPA-1 Preamp has its share of unique features such as a remote power supply with the power transformer and three switched and three un-switched outlets in an separate box, and with internal on-board dual (left and right channel) voltage regulators in the preamp. Instead of a balance control intruding into the signal path Kinergetics has cleverly used a dual concentric volume control to allow each channel to be adjusted independently, so no need for a balance control. For vinyl enthusiasts: the KPA-1 has three separate phono preamps, one for moving coil, one for moving magnet and one for moving iron (such as Grado) cartridges. In the feedback loop is the body of a cartridge to cancel out the inherent hysteresis distortion of the coil/magnet system of the cartridge. No other preamp has this circuit. In the tape input circuit is an actual tape head in the feedback loop to cancel out its hysteresis distortion. Whether tape or phono input, the audio signal is uniquely treated to produce the most accurate, realistic and natural sounding music.There is nothing else like it. The key to the patented distortion canceling circuit is in dealing with the delay, or lag, between a change in electric current and the resultant change in magnetic field. This is hysteresis lag and is inherent in coils, capacitors, transistors and iron. This has the effect of dulling the leading edge of transient attacks and prolonging the decay of the note thus smearing the sound of plucked string instruments as well as percussion instruments. By putting a replica of the active circuit in the negative feedback loop of that circuit, the lag or delay is cancelled out. Percussive transients are preserved and pianos and harpsichords, guitars and castanets sound alive and exciting. This is the Kinergetics magic, available nowhere else. Period. No matter how good other components may sound these Kinergetics will always sound better, Of these units the KPA-1 is new old stock and the KBA-200 was a display and demo unit for my Optimum Audio business that I had in the 1980s and 90s.
