I am in the process of replacing a Monitor41 kerosene fuel fired central heating unit. This vents to the outside via a heat exchanger piping system, making it very efficient and SAFE. The 41, implies 41,000 BTUs and the newer of the Model 40 units. I suspect this is 20 plus years old and I hate being honest about this since after running flawlessly in a small apartment year round for 15 years, winter months only I had it completely rebuilt because the “pot” looked like maybe it was time. My thinking was do it totally. Since that time, for 5 or 6 years in has been in our summer home. SUMMER home! We possibly used it for a few nightly hours during our shoulder seasons; June and Sept, Maybe Oct. Call it 10 times, maybe 20 to 30 over the past 5 to 6 years. Less than 20gals. One hundred hours? Two hundred? My point is, this is worth all of my asking price of $500, which is substantially less than the rebuild AND I’m including the 55gal drum with rack and CU piping. As for what I am replacing it with? My bucket list includes replacing our 42 inch, (40) year old, 1” thick camp door with an 8 foot wide sliding door requiring an additional 54 inches. (Total 96”). It is still up and running for viewing, but as door install date (about August 21) approaches, my wife will let me pick away at creating the rough opening. TMI I am sure, but with all this I hope you recognize this as a great deal: small camp, huge great room, workshop possibly, even for heating a garage. For those that want a comparison, 41,000btu is about the same as the hottest propane or natural gas fired fireplaces, sometimes used to “heat” entire homes during power outages. With this unit there’s the 55gal drum, possibly 25gallons of kerosene, (3) 5gal pails for buying and transporting the kerosene. Fact is I also have a 2nd identical unit that was also rebuilt at the same time. This like makes little sense to you unless I explain I dropped on off for rebuild, then when picking that one up I decided to have this second one (not run since) rebuilt. I might even have a substantial length of new soft roll copper pipe, still in the box! This is located on Mousam Lake. If transporting cottage to cottage via boat makes most sense, speak up verses lugging it down many flights of stairs.
