This bass is right about 28 years old and it has been played. As such, she carries signs of use and wear, although none of them effect playability in anyway. Beginning with the top of the body, the pickup cover shows signs of string contact particularly from the 3rd and 2nd stings. There are some very superficial scratches on the top but not many. they should definitely buff out if you’re of a mind to do so. There are some swirls around the base of the control knobs but they don’t really show in the photos Nothing to note around the neck pocket or the inside of the horns. The edge of the body is dent/ding free with just a slight scuffing between the bottom strap button and output jack. The back has a fair amount of superficial buckle rash that at certain angles gives a hazy sheen in the center of the back there is a small ding close to the cavity cover, but the Color and wood are indisturbed. The satin finish on the back of the neck is well worn, making it very comfortable to play. the frets are in great shape, smooth fret ends and only a couple very shallow divots on the first couple of frets. Nothing that strings will hang up on, just signs of jamming. The finger board is in very good shape. There is also a decades old crack on the head stock that runs vertical with the grain, but not all the way through front to back. It is one the bass side of the headstock. This is not a crack the runs left to right that often ends in the headstock breaking off. The previous owner played this bass as is for over 20 years and said it has been very stable as it was there when he bought it back after the turn of the century. Please look at the photos closely as they can explain it better than I can. If the integrity of the wood in the headstock concerns you any at all, as a woodworker since 1987, I’d recommend having some Tite-Bond wood glue thinned out with water and injected into it with a 23 gauge or smaller hypodermic needle and syringe. I have reinforced many components of high end furniture this way when I’ve seen a similar flaw. Having seen this in many pieces of wood over the years, I am confident that it is a non-issue. It isn’t called a “Growler” due to being your typical four string bass. It is not. This boutique bass earned its name from a fierce, low-mid snarl that cuts like a chainsaw through any dense mix. Built during the highly regarded late-90s production era in Nashville, Tennessee, it bypasses standard, cookie-cutter factory specs in favor of true master-built innovation. From its patented asymmetrical neck profile—which is hand-carved thinner on the treble side to mirror the natural anatomy of your hand—to the premium, multi-laminate Maple and Purpleheart construction, every single contour is designed for effortless speed and devastating performance.But the real magic lies under the hood. The Electronics The Pickup & Blend The Growler uses a single, giant quad-coil Bartolini pickup that handles frequencies with incredible precision. The Blend (Pan) control lets you sweep seamlessly between the front half of the pickup (for that fat, rounded neck-tone) and the back half (for punchy, bridge-position bite). Dual Channels (The Bass Geek Secret) Here is where the magic happens: the bass has two separate, independent channels. Instead of just one global Bass and Treble knob, the Growler has stacked knobs that give you dedicated Bass and Treble cut/boost for the frontcoils and the back coils respectively. This means you can dial in massive low-end on the neck coils while simultaneously dialing in a crisp, bright treble on the bridge coils. The Contour Switches Flanking the EQ knobs are two 3-way mini-toggle switches (one for each coil half). This is a 1966 blackface Fender Bassman head. Un-modded, super clean, freshly serviced and in perfect working condition. A little about the Bassman: This is one of THE holy grail amps of all time, and for good reason. Boasting 40 watts of power, this amp produces all of the famous sparkling Fender clean tones (particularly with a Telecaster or a Stratocaster) up to about 5 on the volume knob, and takes effects pedals like a true champ. At 5, youre just entering that beautiful Fender edge of breakup territory (think Tom Petty). Go beyond that, and the natural overdrive of this amp will equal or out-Marshall pretty much any real deal vintage Marshall, especially with a Les Paul or similar dual humbucker guitar. Its one of the best hard rock amps Ive ever heard when pushed to about 7 or 8. And as its name implies, it sounds incredible for bass, as originally intended. This particular one was completely checked out by Commonwealth Pro Audio (a certified Fender tech) in Louisville, KY a few months ago. They confirmed that the amp has had a cap job done by a previous tech at some point in its life and that there is no evidence of leakage from the replacement electrolytic caps. They also re-soldered a few broken connections, replaced the 1.5K resistors on the output tubes, removed the so-called death cap (since the amp has had a grounded three prong cord installed previously, the death cap was no longer necessary), removed the polarity switch from the circuit (also unnecessary for the same reason), replaced the 12AT7 phase inverter tube, replaced the pilot light bulb, and properly set the bias for the output tubes. It was given a 100% fully clean bill of health and it sounds amazing. This one is good to go for many years to come, absolutely no maintenance needed for the foreseeable future. I have the service receipt, along with the replaced parts, and they will be included. You might wonder why I would sell an amp that I clearly love so much. Well, Ive already got two amazing sounding Marshalls, and the Bassman when cranked up is just in too similar of territory as those. Plus, I would really like to have a Fender all tube combo with onboard reverb and tremolo as something different to complement the Marshalls. Otherwise I would happily hang on to it. $1,500. The only trades I would consider would be for a late 60s or early 70s Fender Pro Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb or Twin Reverb amp in perfect working condition. Pickup at my spot in New Albany. Milford, Connecticut... Can ship at buyers expense.... Just finished putting this beautiful Tama Starclassic Performer, 100% birch shell 10,12,14,22,5.5x14 kit together, after a good cleaning... The set is the 1st year they did a 2 tone finish in the Performer series, and the first year they did this finish as well, which is called, Dark Cherry Fade... That places these drums as being made in 2002... Wow... 21 years old already! But still looking great.... Some typical edge wear on bass hoops... Except 1 spot that looks like the 12 tom rubbed the bass drum... Its pretty small and has been touched up... Look at the top left center lug, you can kinda see it... To the left of it... Hardware is shiny, pit and scratch free, for the most part... Nicer than most I see... Black rims mounts have a couple minor scuffs... Has its original bottom tom heads in mint condition, and Evans on the rest... G2 on tom tops... EQ4 batter and black with small offset hole on front... I also have some other head combinations. if you so desire... I dont think they were gigged and were obviously stored in a decent climate, and out of the sun...These drums are very pretty and have been shined up to factory new... Not so much as a fingerprint, and everything was dismantled and cleaned... Pics dont do this kit justice, at all... Of course, they sound great, as well...
