CLASSIFICATION TITLE OF THE JOB: Seasonal Ranger, Big Lake Campground CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY: Seasonal Temporary, Non-Benefited Position working 40 hours per week. DEPARTMENT: Linn County Parks and Recreation – Big Lake Campground is in the Willamette National Forest, off the Santiam Pass near the Hoodoo Ski Area. START DATE: ASAP ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Greeting guests; answer questions; share local recreation opportunities with guests; display a kind and helpful attitude; enjoy working in an environment with extensive public contact. • Patrol parks on foot or by vehicle; assist with code compliance; must be able to assess and resolve complaints appropriately; maintain proper logbooks. • Clean and stock restrooms; clean fire pits; garbage removal; collecting fees. • Sell firewood and/or ice; assist guests with FC/FS registration and site selection, if needed. • Cleaning of park grounds; pruning shrubs and trees; perform general lawn maintenance using mowers, tractors and attachments. • Repair vandalized park facilities; assist with general construction maintenance projects and general carpentry. • Maintain regular and predictable work attendance; be proactive; self-starter. • Immediately report any maintenance concerns, unsafe conditions or needed repairs to your supervisor. • May include other specific duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to learn park rules, area information, and educate park visitors. • Ability to follow directions; manage multiple tasks to park standards; complete tasks in a timely manner; work independently; effectively communicate with management, park rangers, co-workers and visitors. • Ability to work in all weather conditions; must be available to work evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. This position will require you to work 40 hours per week. • Position requires frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive forward and overhead reaching; ability to lift/carry 40lbs. and push objects weighing up to 75lbs; ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time; ability to move safely over rough and uneven terrain. • Ability to safely operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment; ability to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities; perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals. • Must be a graduate from a senior high school or have GED; possess valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record; pass a criminal background check; must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. • Must abide by Linn County Parks/USFS Campground rules. • Must live on site; maintain a tidy, free of clutter, campsite; must have a self-contained recreational vehicle; approved RV must be fully operational, clean in appearance, well maintained and in good working condition; ability to tow own RV in and out of campgrounds in emergency situations. • Personal property shall be covered by your own insurance; Linn County will not, and cannot, replace any lost, stolen or damaged property. RV must be insured and licensed with current tags.
