This pair of 19th-century French figural sculptures is attributed to the French Belle Époque sculptor Ernest Rancoulet (1870–1915). The signature “Rancoulet” refers directly to his work, which is typically incised into the circular metal bases. These are antique spelter figures (a zinc-based alloy) finished with a brown, bronze-like patina. They are mounted onto turned wooden or faux-marble plinths, which are classic characteristics of late-19th-century French decorative arts. Rancoulet was highly famous for creating allegorical and pastoral pairs of young boys and girls, often depicting rural or provincial themes like harvest workers, students, or fishers. This specific pair shows a young woman carrying a harvest in her apron alongside a schoolboy holding books under his arm. Dimensions: 15.5”H x 5.5”D Condition: Excellent for its age.
