We have been silently hoarding this adorable breed for years, just breeding for ourselves because if there was one homestead animal we couldnt live without, its these ducks. They are hardy, they are largely self-sufficient in the summer, they are clever (for a duck) enough to forage and survive, but not so clever to be a nuisance. They are one of the least messy breed of ducks because this is the only female-led breed, meaning less time at the water bucket and more time our foraging for food. They are large enough to make a decent meal, but still lay a ton of eggs! (Typically the large breeds do not lay many eggs and the smaller breeds lay a lot but are so flighty they can run themselves to death and can hardly feed two people with meat). They will brood their own young if allowed to, but arent so stuck on brooding that you cant break them if you need the eggs. Each bird is uniquely marked, making it extra fun to get to know each ones personality. Basically the IDEAL homestead bird.
