Position Overview The CNC Operator runs the machine at the center of our production process. Every cabinet we build starts with parts cut on the CNC, and the quality of those cuts sets the standard for everything that follows. This is a skilled, specialized role that requires genuine mechanical aptitude, precision, and a thorough understanding of how the machine works — not just the steps, but the underlying logic. Our Komo Innova Mach One CNC router is from 1999 and runs on manual setup and calibration, including hand-entered tool heights and offset tests. Without the automated fail-safes of newer machines, the operators skill and attention are the safeguard. Thats why we treat this as one of the most critical roles in our shop. You will work closely with our Technical Production Manager, who creates all programs and cut files, and report to the Shop Manager. Responsibilities - Load and run CNC programs, ensuring correct material selection, orientation, and sheet quality before every cut - Operate and monitor the machine throughout each cycle — vacuum, dust collection, program execution, and part removal - Label, sort, and document all cut parts; maintain accurate records on pattern sheets and the offcuts database - Inspect parts for quality and flag errors before they reach assembly - Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning; monitor tooling condition and replace bits as needed - Perform machine setup and calibration, including setting tool heights, tool diameter offset tests, spoilboard setup, and flycutting - Communicate proactively with the Technical Production Manager on recuts, material issues, and machine performance - Contribute to process documentation and CNC knowledge standards - Attend daily shop team meetings Monday–Thursday at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM - Track your own time using Workforce Qualifications - 2+ years of CNC operation experience preferred (router, mill, or similar) - Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with precision machinery - Familiarity with CAM workflows, DNC systems, or machine coordinate systems a plus - Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to sustain focus during high-stakes, repetitive tasks - Ability to work independently and take full ownership of a process - Physically capable of the demands of the role — this position requires manually loading 20+ full sheets of plywood onto the machine each day; sheets weigh 50–80 lbs and must be handled safely and consistently throughout the shift - Good interpersonal skills — this role requires close daily coordination with the production team Prior experience in woodworking or cabinetry is not required. We will provide thorough onboarding for a candidate with strong CNC fundamentals and the right approach to precision work. Reporting Structure Reports to: Shop Manager Works closely with: Technical Production Manager Direct Reports: None Compensation, Hours, and Benefits Hourly Rate: $28.88/hour Work Schedule: 32 hrs/week, Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with at least a 30-minute lunch break. The shop is open from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday–Friday.
