Original Owner’s Three (3) Vintage, 1987 Service Merchandise, Solid Maple 30” Seat Height, Spindle Back, Swivel Bar Stools With Backrest & Brass Plated Footrest. Constructed of solid, North American hard maple wood, these bar stools are in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The three (3) bar stools are solid, level and with sturdy flared legs. Their original honey-to-light maple finish is pristine, with no fading, discoloration or blemishes. The durable, wraparound brass plated footrests show no rust, tarnish, staining or damage. The heavy-duty, 360-degree swivel mechanism seats move smoothly with no resistance. One stool’s cracked spindle back piece has been repaired (see photo no. 19). Another stool has minor scraps at the top of its backrest (see photo no. 20). Seldom used, the bar stools were purchased in the Summer of 1987 at Service Merchandise, Marietta, GA. Dimensions: Seat Width: 17.25”; Seat Depth: 17”; Full Height: 42.5”; Seat Height: 30”; Backrest Height: 14”; Footrest Height: 12”; Footrest Width 19.0”; Footrest Depth: 19”. Background Information • Vintage 1980s maple bar stools with a backseat, were frequently sold through catalog showrooms like Service Merchandise, typically featured solid hard ma-ple construction, spindle or captain-style curved backrests, and a 24-inch or 30-inch seat height. Very minor wear, scuffs, scratches, discoloration from normal everyday use. This model of Cushman Colonial Creations chair is called their Searsburg Round Post No. 5-82 and has their Antique style finish Colonial Revival style hardwood furniture designed by Herman DeVries Made mid century between 1933-1964 in Bennington, Vermont. A 1937 Cushman catalog shows this model. 36 high (floor to top of finials) 28.5 wide 19 deep front to back 16 from floor to top of seat in the front and 12-13 in the back The seat is wide, sits low to the floor and slants to the back (see photos). The back angles slightly backward and has the Windsor style variation of the comb back, cattail, or arrow back construction. Very comfortable and relaxing chair with a spacious carved saddle style seat, wide paddle arm rests, cattail spindles, round finials, and rounded edges all around.
