If you ever wanted a sleigh bed ... this might be the one to consider. It is not store bought, it was made by some captain from who lived in Savannah in the late 1800s. I was told it was made paticuliarly for his wife for when he was away. In those days beds were made in accordance for a persons size and made from what was locally available. In this case the wood is Mahogany, which is readily available if you had ports in South America. The Mattress was made by the amish here in the United States. It is a custom size and a real pain in the ass to fit sheets onto. Its kinda between a double and a queen. Heavy as all out and solid as a rock. When I got it, it had wooden pegs or dowels or something that held the slabs in place. I watched (an antique wood worker who specialized in this sort of thing) make it into being able to use metal screws. So before I got it .. it was wooden pieces that held it together. Anyway .. its now very easy to disassemble and can be dismantled with one person. Believe it or not, its not fragile at all. Im 62 275lbs and it handles me just fine. The mattress was in perfect condition until a house guest spilled coffee on the mattress itself. Thats not cool, but it is what it is. Could try some kind of stain remover... but the bed has been in the guest room for about 12 years now, and its just not a priority. Daughter says she wants it but to date has made no effort to come get it. So its up for grabs for the next person to enjoy. If the mattress stain is a problem then youre going to be offset cause the mattress has to be specially made to fit the bed. Wont find a pre-production mattress to this size. Think the Amish up in PA.??? created it and had it shipped down. Think we paid about $700 for the mattress all said in done. Really is a nice example of a sleigh bed. Its history is rather unique. The size is one of a kind. If you have to buy a sleigh bed I suggest you get one that can be resold or handed down. Those copies are just that and the quality of build is in no way the same. This bed for example is near the 140 year mark. Thats says alot. Comes from a smoke free pet free home. With the exception of a small child. There are a few cracks and couple scratches that will explain the reduce asking price. Unit can be broken down and easily taken down the stairs to load into a station wagon or vehicle. The mattress will go with it. Again it has the coffee stain. But since it was custom made to fit. You might want to evaluate that in person. New mattress will have to be custom built. Beautiful Mahogany and it really is a nice piece. Consider this as opposed to a fabricated piece of china knockoff. This is the classic, heavy duty, Italian Mazzer Mini with doser and timer, built as a commercial grinder rather than a typical home appliance. Ive only used it as a home espresso grinder, typically making one espresso per day. The burr chamber has been thoroughly cleaned for sale. Im selling it with the existing burrs rather than replacing them so the next owner can choose whatever replacement burr set they prefer.
