Its intended use was likely to be found as a daily, family table. THE WORKMANSHIP IN THIS ENTIRE SET HAS WITHSTOOD THE TEST OF TIME. Still, this was not in full-time (daily) use. It was in a room partitioned off of the kitchen- brought into use for whenever the occasion called for its entertainment utility. I am the original purchaser from over 3 decades ago. (price was MUCH higher). I came across it while visiting Back-East (Northern NJ). I chose to have it transported here to Pacific NW, where it has been shuffled since. Nice touch: Probably the single most favorable quality I found in using this set... IS the relative ease of moving to-and-from seating position. The 36 tall table is otherwise known to be referenced as Counter-Height; making for a much more comfortable food/game access table. Even with a surface condition that could use a brightening up- the light finish together with cushions makes for a very easy arrangement.
