BE AN EXCELLENT WORK LIGHT for CRAFTING, SEWING, PAINTING, and COLOR MATCHING. 5. ACTUALLY DO THE JOB. (Competitors fixtures are just hyped up table lamps) SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is thought to be caused by lack of sunlight which causes depression, weight gain, and disrupted sleep cycles. Lack of light causes melatonin build up. (Melatonin is a hormone that puts you to sleep.) Fortunately, when light stimulates the pineal gland in the middle of the brain, our biological clock gets reset, and we feel refreshed and rested. Light is a stimulant. This postings light fixture can saturate a living space with more healthy, bright, white light than any other “therapy” light you can buy. This light simulates natural daylight with a broad light spectrum. So it renders colors accurately, making it a great light for sewing and crafts. SPECIFICATIONS (THIS LIGHT IS NOT A JOKE) *10,000 Lumen Light Output (20+ times more light than competitive “therapy” lights) *100 watts of radiant power IT’S LUMENS, NOT LUX THAT MATTERS Scammy marketing is used to promote light fixtures for light therapy. Light is measured in lumens, not lux. Everyone says that their lights will make 10,000 lux. But what they don’t tell you is that you only get that 10,000 lux if you hold their light against your nose. The further you get from a light, the less lux you get. (Lux is a measurement of how many lumens of light are spread out per square meter) Many of the so called “10,000 lux” Therapy lights only rated for measly 500 to 800 lumens – no more than a regular table lamp! But their LEDs are hidden behind white plastic diffusers which partially blocks their light. So their actual lumen output is even less. Truth be told, you’d be better off staring at bare 4 watt led bulb before wasting money on an under powered “therapy” light BLUE LIGHT MATTERS Humans and other mammals are photo sensitive to blue light. That’s why our light uses a 6000K bulb that mimics the blue white light of the northern sky. Blue light has been scientifically proven to reduce fatigue [by 27%] while improving alertness [by 28%] and productivity [by 19%] ! Ive personally used them for most of my adult life to get the energy I need to get all my work done. In 2007, The Journal of Circadian Rhythms, quantified the effect blue light on worker performance as shown below. All the scientists did is change the color temperature of the light bulbs being used: Percentage Improvement over baseline measurement Fatigue 26.9% Concentration 36.8% Daytime Alertness 28.1% Feelings of Weakness 26.7% Light-headedness 33.7% Sleepiness 31.0% Work Performance 19.4% Alertness & Concentration 22.9% Vitality 28.4% Mental Health 13.9% Conversely, warm white bulbs are a waste of money, they primarily make yellow and red light. Yet so-called therapy lights have switches on them for warm light. This is pointless. USING A SCAMMY LIGHT FOR AN HOUR ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH UNLESS YOU STARE When the 10,000 lux recommendation first came out, experimenters were putting patients in front of an entire wall of lights. No matter where a patient turned his head, the light intensity at the eye was 10,000 lux in every direction. Now if you sit directly in front of a single bright light fixture, it’s likely that your gaze will be diverted because of contrast glare. So you lose benefits as you look away from the light. Sellers marketing tiny “10,000 lux” lights provide no proof that they are efficacious unless you hold them up to your face. Much of what you see on Ebay is just copied from propaganda posted on Amazon. They are actually selling you Amazon returns. If someone paid to ship an item back to Amazon to get a refund, It’s probably because that light was not effective. INTHE REAL WORLD, LONGER EXPOSURES ARE USED Correcting circadian rhythm dis-regulation benefits common farm animals, just like humans. The biology is nearly identical and is mediated by the flow of melatonin. I’ve spent my career in this field. So how is light used in Agriculture? What can we learn? And for how long are lights used per day? First light improves milk production in dairy cattle. Heifers under light put on more muscle mass and less fat while coming into heat faster. Using light, I’ve tricked dairy goats into breeding out of season. The case is the same for humans, we gain weight and have less sex in winter. Light is also used to induce egg laying in chickens during the winter. You can induce egg laying in chickens by giving them a half hour blast of light. But it’s just not practical to tie chickens up in front of a light fixture to induce egg laying. Instead, lights in animal barns are left on in the barn for 16 or 18 hours with cattle being given 200-300 lux all day. So 200-300 lux may be a good target continuous light level for people. Based upon my experience, it’s easier and more practical to provide bright light throughout the day rather than ultra bright light for just an hour. If you are like me, I wake up with bright light and use more in the evening to give me a lift to get through the rest of the day. HOW TO USE THIS LIGHT This light will illuminate a typical 12’x15’ room with light colored walls to 200+ lux.(Typical residential lighting often ranges only from 20 to 100 lux.) Like I said, this is a light level proven to work in agriculture. But always consult with your doctor. Our light can be placed on top of a refrigerator or cupboard to energize your morning kitchen routine. Or you can use it with a timer to turn on a half hour before you want to wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day. I’ve done this and it works quite well. This auction’s bulb has no light blocking diffusers to maximize efficiency. So it’s best to keep the bulb out of your visual view. So placing it behind you or on top of shelves or other high furniture is recommended. This way it gives glare free comfortable indirect illumination. WHY THE RASH OF SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Home builders put in the cheapest light fixtures that look nice. They will put a single ceiling light in a room, when it really needs 4 fixtures just to get even lighting. It’s even worse when “interior designers” get involved. It’s always the most expensive houses that have the worst illumination. I think it might actually “be against their religion” to specify lights in a house that actually make light. Worse yet, these “experts” insist that people should illuminate their houses with dim red and yellow “2700K” light. At low levels of illumination, the human eye stops using the cones which are sensitive to red light. So you don’t notice how red 2700K light actually is until you try to add a lot more 2700K light to it. Suddenly the illumination appears harsh.(The human brain expects to see red light at dusk and dawn and it will interpret dim sunlight as “white” if at all possible. But too much 2700K light looks unnatural. ) So people settle for and get trapped in dimly lit houses. SIMULATED DAYLIGHT IS AN ALL OR NOTHING PROPOSITION On the other hand, if you want to use light therapy, you should brightly illuminate the entire room around you with simulated daylight. The human brain does not expect to see high blue content light at the low light levels normally found in houses or offices. During the middle of the day, daylight is actually very blue because the sky is blue. Never the less, your brain will interpret daylight as white. But if you have a tiny amount of simulated daylight, it will look very blue and very stark.
