Hello, I am selling a Mid-Century Modern obelisk-style ceramic table lamp, likely made in the late 50s or early 60s in Los Angeles by Sascha Brastoff. This lamp was purchased new by my Grandmother. A little info about the Lamp Maker: Sascha Brastoff (October 23, 1918 – February 4, 1993) was an American designer who had a ceramics studio. He was active in the Los Angeles area from 1947 to 1963, after which he left his company due to ill health. The Sascha Brastoff Ceramics Factory, designed by architects A. Quincy Jonesand Frederick Earl Emmons, was located at 11520 West Olympic Boulevard in West Los Angeles. Key Characteristics: Design & Origin: Lamps of this era and style, often featuring tapered obelisk shapes and hand-painted motifs, were frequently produced by manufacturers like Deena China or various Japanese ceramics companies. Artistic Details: The lamp features a cream or off-white ceramic body decorated with hand-painted abstract floral or leaf designs. The base is typically made of finished wood or brass. Market Value: Similar vintage MCM ceramic lamps currently retail between $175 and $750, depending on the manufacturer, condition, and rarity of the hand-painted pattern. Asking 300 or best offer. Sturdy and solid. Incredible woodworking. All joints are tight. Beautiful rich colors in shades of nutmeg, honey and cinnamon. Fine wood grain. Original patina. Very minor wear, scuffs, scratches, discoloration from normal everyday use. This model of Cushman Colonial Creations chair is called their Searsburg Round Post No. 5-82 and has their Antique style finish Colonial Revival style hardwood furniture designed by Herman DeVries Made mid century between 1933-1964 in Bennington, Vermont. A 1937 Cushman catalog shows this model. 36 high (floor to top of finials) 28.5 wide 19 deep front to back 16 from floor to top of seat in the front and 12-13 in the back The seat is wide, sits low to the floor and slants to the back (see photos). The back angles slightly backward and has the Windsor style variation of the comb back, cattail, or arrow back construction. Very comfortable and relaxing chair with a spacious carved saddle style seat, wide paddle arm rests, cattail spindles, round finials, and rounded edges all around. Table is made of solid oak wood that has all been refinished by a professional. Floor lamp also consists of it’s original pleated velvet lamp shade which the fabric is in great condition. The lamp shade is a beige color velvet and comes with its original finial.
