PRISTINE VINTAGE SILK QUM RUG Intricate Hunting Scene Design Qum hunting rugs are often hung on the wall, instead of being used as a carpet This rug is perfect as a piece of artwork for the wall and has only ever been used as a wall hanging (tapestry) IT HAS NEVER BEEN ON THE FLOOR It was purchased from a high end rug dealer - Atiyeh Brothers, Portland Oregon - in the 1960s It is in pristine like new condition Original family ownership This rug is made from silk, which allows it to reflect light in the room in a way that only this fiber can do. This gives it a luster that will brighten any space and give it a classic look. These artistic rugs are beautiful, detailed, and show a level of skill that is found in only the finest pieces Hunting rugs are a special category among collectors and connoisseurs of Antique rugs. They recall the glory, splendor, and mythologies surrounding the Royal Courts. They depict scenes of hunting and victory among the rulers. Many times, hunting scenes depicted in the silk Qum rugs recall a famous poem or story. The symbolism of the vintage silk rugs is quite complex. This silk rug stands out for its exquisite use of color and level of detail that gives the pictorial elements a realistic character and feel. The abundant plant and animal life represents a time of prosperity. As a result, Qum silk rugs were quickly able to establish themselves in the world of fine rugs. This caliber of vintage Qum rug showcases a tremendous degree of detail by establishing thinner outlines and using vibrant colors. In this masterpiece, both of these elements are present and visible. A Persian silk rug stands for pure luxury. This rug in particular, since Qum (also called Qom) silk rugs are known to be the most sophisticated and to count among the finest Persian rugs. Only a skilled master is able to craft such a rug, which easily takes over one year work time. The natural silk from this area is highly popular and said to be the highest-quality silk ever made. It has a most beautiful shine and is even sufficiently robust for frequented rooms. This carpet comes from Iran (formerly Persia) and as a Persian rug enjoys probably the highest reputation among all hand-knotted rug types. No other region looks back on such a long tradition in rug making as Iran. Thus, the probably finest and most elaborate rugs originate here. The robustness, durability and quality of the Persian knot are still unsurpassed today. Persian rugs are usually named after their region of origin. Pure silk is probably one of the most luxurious natural materials. Its combination of fineness and robustness is unbeaten among textile fibres. Even today, silk is an expression of high luxury. The caterpillar of the silk moth butterfly produces silk when building its cocoon. This natural silk is then elaborately extracted by hand and woven into fibres. Silk possesses an unmistakable shine that is noticeable from afar. Depending on the simplicity of the light, it varies into beautiful facets. At the same time, pure silk is extraordinarily soft, crease-resistant and heat-insulating. Traditionally hand-knotted rugs still form the highest quality standard among all types of rugs. Depending on the type of knot, the rugs are extremely robust and can last for generations. The finer and tighter a rug is knotted, the more detailed ornaments and patterns can be depicted on the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires a much higher manual effort as well as a higher level of experience and skill of the knotter.
