For sale is a really interesting and fantastic-looking vintage Tube-Type Radio Transmitter called a Globe Scout (Model 65A) made by World Radio Laboratories of Council Bluffs, IA back in the 1950s (approximately 1954). This transmitter was part of a group of electronics that I purchased from a retired electrical engineer and, since I dont collect transmitter equipment, I decided to sell it so that it can go to a new home where someone will appreciate and enjoy it. As shown in the many interior and exterior photos that I have provided, this transmitter has a really beautiful look to it with its faceplate being of a different color than the cabinet to create a distinctive 2-tone Space-Age retro look. In fact, it looks like something you would see in a 1950s Sci-Fi space movie. It has numerous controls on the front, 2 large pilot lights (a red one labelled PLATE and a green one labelled FILAMENT), a cool-looking meter, and various other items as shown in the photos. The rear of the unit also has numerous items (including a fuse-holder with a fuse inside) which can likewise be seen in the photos. I did not test the fuse/fuse holder and I don’t know if they are good and/or correct for this transmitter. I will therefore leave it up to the Buyer and/or the Buyer’s qualified service technician to test the fuse/fuse-holder and replace them if needed. The cabinet is made of heavy metal and is in very nice cosmetic condition in my opinion. The faceplate also looks great including its distinctive WORLD RADIO LABORATORIES Globe/Antenna-Logo. There are some nicks, dings, scratches, missing lettering, etc. here and there on the transmitter but, as a whole, it really looks great in my opinion. I think that it would be difficult or impossible to find one of these transmitters in better cosmetic condition than the one being sold in the present ad. This transmitter appears to be very solidly-built in my view and it weighs approximately 27 lbs. What is nice about this transmitter is that it is not a giant boat anchor like some of the other vintage transmitters that I have seen and it is quite compact. I have provided a photo of the transmitter next to a drinking cup so that the relative size of it can be seen (cup not included). Dimension-wise the transmitter is approximately 16 inches long, 8 inches deep, and 8 inches tall (not counting the knobs and other items that extend outward from the transmitter’s cabinet). As shown in the photos, the chassis has 1 very large transformer and 2 smaller transformers. The chassis uses 6 tubes, all of which are included. These tubes are: (A) 6L6; (B) 6V6; (C) 6146; (D) 6C5; (E) 6SJ7; and (F) 5U4. I have not tested these tubes and I dont know if they are good or not. I will leave it up to the Buyer and/or the Buyers qualified service technician to test the tubes and all of the other parts, components, and elements of this transmitter. Please note that this transmitter is being sold untested and I don’t know if it works or not. Because I was told that it has not been operated for many years, I did not want to plug it in and turn it on and have not done so. I am therefore selling it for restoration, display, and/or parts purposes only and the Buyer of this transmitter should assume that it does not work, that it is not a “plug-and-play” unit, and that it will need parts/service/tubes, etc. I also don’t know if it is restorable or not. I will therefore leave it up to the Buyer and/or the Buyer’s qualified service technician to fully test it and service/repair it if needed. For these reasons, I have a low price on this transmitter which is below what comparable units sell for on-line. So, nows your chance to get a magnificent-looking rare vintage radio transmitter with a fantastic retro “Space-Age” look to it that is in fantastic cosmetic condition. In addition, by buying locally, you save on shipping which would be quite expensive due to the heavy weight of the transmitter.
